OK guys, here is a perfect example of what I would like to see when presenting a SU model. Interactive Watch Presentation I was not able to determine what software was used but it is what I was trying to encourage. Imagine being able to enable this type of interactivity in LayOut presentation mode, PowerPoint, or some other presentation tool. It would even be beat to achieve this interactivity on a web site (which this guy has already figured out). Yes, I am a senior citizen without a computer to work on this stuff but I am currently obsessed with finding out how to achieve this and sharing it with/making it available to the SketchUcation community. Fredo, with your talent and expertise you should be able to come up with something.

Probably so. I have been learning/working with animated textures in Twilight Render. Since Animator works with TR, I was thinking about how neat it would be to combine the features of the two pieces of software. Could almost be a competitor to things like Twinmotion and Enscape. Was just thinking (LOL) Maybe it is time to go back to being retired.

OK - I just went into the SketchUcation Tools and it now seems to be working fine. In fact, I now see that it is the latest version. Not sure why there was a problem before, but I appreciate the responses.

OK - I am back on the right track. Need to make some adjustments but at least it is now acting the way it should. Making me feel kind of foolish with the silly mistakes I made. [image: tJSh_WalkingMan1.gif]

Well Poser looks very interesting if you need/want to have that level of animation and audio. My original idea was in response to Nukeman's original post to show that animation of 3D characters was possible in SketchUp without having to combine multiple videos to show an animated character in a SketchUp scene. Yes, I agree that doing so with tools like Animator and MSPhysics does take a lot of work. Bottom line is that, at least for now, doing all of this entirely inside SketchUp is not really the right way to do. IMO, SketchUp is not a good tool for creating game like environments. Again, IMO, SketchUp is a great tool for doing architectural or product models and even including some level of animation as a way to present the model/product. In those environments the best option combining the model and animated characters might be a tool like Twinmotion. And even in that environment it is my understanding that the animation of the characters is somewhat limited (you can not control all aspects of the character animation). I had planned on trying to show an animated character walking across a terrain or even thought about trying to animate a character going up a set of stairs. I think that everyone has already demonstrated that, while possible with a great amount of work, the current tools are not the best toolset for achieving something like that. In closing, sorry for the long post, I appreciate the responses we have had in the thread. I wish my skills were better at delivering and look forward to any additional insight on the topic.

Yep - It was the one about knock-on effects. You are correct that is just opinions but what caught my was comments in the early posts about how there seems to be some drop off on this forum in the number of respondents (especially in some that have very active in the past). I thought I had noticed it before as well so it caught my attention. Even though I did see some things I agreed with (yes, they are opinions) and I found the thread was interesting.

I am setting up a folder under /documents so that it can be accessed from what ever version I am using. Do not want to lock it into any particular version. I have some materials set up that way as well. After some looking around, I think that strange color may have been in a component I inheritance from someone else.

I should have added the following. If you have a border on the viewport before making the clipping mask, the clipped view will also show the border. So you could select the viewport before drawing the shape for the mask and turn on Stroke in Shape Style.

@paul russam said: If you’re looking to have your models viewable on a web page then you might want to look at SketchFab, here’s a link to models I’ve uploaded https://sketchfab.com/dma-ni/models and here’s one in action on a page https://www.dma-ni.com/dma_projects/dma_view_proj/maghereagh-kilkerley-dundalk (click the ‘view in 3d’ button) Yes, I have some test models out there also. It is a good product but I am looking for a little more flexibility than what it does (at least currently). I have been testing SimLab Composer. I like it because of the following features: Allows me to host the pages on my own server (not tied to their portal) Allows me to add a fair amount of interactivity to the model and the web page: Animation of both scenes and geometry Links to display annotations (they call them message boxes), URLs, change object materials, and show/hide objects. These items can be achieved with both links within the model or via links on the web page itself. Pretty powerful stuff IMO.

I just did some more testing and now have a clue as to what is happening. I has to do with the complexity of other objects in the model. When I started the testing, I just entered a bunch of 2D text instances. As the number of entries increased, I saw some very minor slow down so I then went and added my normal car wash equipment to the model. With the addition of each piece, particularly more and more complex ones (equipment with many component instances) adding additional text object began to slow down. It started taking even longer to edit existing 2D text instances. So, it looks like the more complex the model becomes, the longer it takes to both add and edit 2D text instances. It also seems like editing existing instances takes longer than adding additional ones. Maybe TIG will be able to address this in some way. As I said in my earlier post, I had reached a point where it can take 4 to 7 minutes to edit a 2D text object.

One last image as I continue to tweak the details a little. Think this is all for this piece of equipment though. [image: 1JDR_TopBrushEnscape_2017-03-21-12-26-57.png] @DaveR - when I finalize this piece of equipment I promise I will go back and convert most of the groups to components. Some of the groups may stay as groups inside the appropriate component. I have one more MAJOR task before I go start updating my equipment/component library though. I want to set up a library of standard colors/materials/textures that I apply to all of the equipment so that the frame, brushes, and other common elements are the same in each component. So, I need recommendations in how to clean up the mess I probably have in my library. In particular for layouts/models where I have multiple pieces of equipment I want to eliminate duplicates color/material/texture instances (hope that makes sense). I think I have seen a thread once before but was not able to find it that gave some steps & tips on how to accomplish this. Hope someone can point me in a direction.
