Hmmm... We get PC Format here in SA (we have a local edition and the UK edition) and I buy it regularly. Most of the SA edition's content is licenced from the UK edition. It could be that I missed the article or they never used it, I'll have to go and check. Thanks for updating!

Well, thanks for keeping us posted, Cork. I may want to talk with you if I need to get two monitors going on Ubuntu, but I have had much the same experience with every version of SU from 6 to 2 (I think I tossed my SU1 disk). Quite the shame...but, hey, I have Rhino on Linux now, in addition to QCAD, BRL-CAD, Blender, AC3D, and the GIMP. That's almost enough for a small architectural practice, if only I wasn't so addicted to using SU as design tool. And I could wish that Rhino 3 or 4 would work, but apparently the McNeel license manager subprogram finds something indigestible about Linux. --Lewis P.S. I thought I should add that, even on Windows, some of these programs will work from a USB drive...I can install Blender, QCAD, and AC3D (Windows versions all) on a flash drive and they seem to run nearly perfectly on whatever Windows computer I plug the drive into. I haven't quite figured out why I want to do this, but it is kind of neat. [Lewis Wadsworth]

True holding your pen still when right clicking is frustrating. With my MX1000 Laser mouse I can customise all 11 functions to any program, you only need the numpad off your keyboard then for entering parameters, works fast as hell. On top of that I have my mouse speed spettings set at a ridiculous high level, when people sit behind my computer they ALWAYS lose the mouse because off the speed, so minimal movement maximum efficiency, relieves the strain on your wrist after a serious CAD session.

... and most Ruby programmers own this book: http://www.pragprog.com/titles/ruby - The Pickaxe But be warned: Sketchup includes Ruby 1.8.0 as far as I know. AND Sketchup does not come with most of the libraries mentioned in the book. If you can read German, search the old Sketchucation Sketchup forum for the German section / my topics. I've tried to introduce Sketchup-Ruby to a programming newby. azuby

I would call that "recording of a macro". And as of today - no can do. Sketchup is closer to being able to do this with V6, but there are not enough "hooks" to get there yet. It would be a nice feature. Todd

SU gives you weird horizontal camera angles if you resize the SU window to an elongated horizontal rectangle. The SU camera angles are calculated vertically, so they are not directly equivalent to 35 mm cameras, where the angle is determined diagonally across the image. So on a normal screen, the horizontal camera angle is bigger than the value you type into the VCB box. Anssi

Bill, Were you ever able to save the .SKP where you wanted them? I tried saving it with the base name (xxx.skp) and no path. I don't think it resaved it, althoug it returned true. sname = File.basename(sfile) model.save(sname) I then saved it with new names using: component_name = File.basename(sfile,".*") sname = component_name + "_new.skp" model.save(sname) This seems to have worked (saving a new SKP in the original folder)

Hi Tom, thanks for responding (and so quickly!) I'm attaching an example of what I'm talking about--I'm just trying to figure out the technique, because the hard drive on my laptop crashed last night and I want to recreate some of the designs I had there while I can remember them, but I don't want to take as long as I did the first time.... At any rate, you'll see it's just a basic edge-joined table top, and I put a line on the right edge to indicate the basic kind of detail I'm talking about. I'm thinking that my problem has to do with not knowing the proper configuration of components/groups etc. to get this to work. I've tried drawing a line like you said, but there's always some sort of problem: I can't select the full line, or I can't select the chamfer with followme, etc. Sorry to be asking such tedious questions... *EDIT: Holy crap, guess I posted a minute too late--that's incredibly awesome mon frere, and merci beaucoup Untitled.skp P: benito

Now I’m planning to design all components with help of special literature. It's very interesting. So, I'm going to kill two birds with one stone I will get home plan in details and material estimation. Will gain basic experience in building technologies. Thanks for advice! P: wlynx

You can use the arrows while drawing a line as well.
