Office hasn't upgraded to SU6 yet, 2 pt perspective has to be faked in photoshop... good guess though, exactly 60 degrees. These weren't originally intended for presentation, but client loved them... sorry for the tiny images, just trying to cover myself in protecting office "intellectual property." I don't think that any of you have any intention of using this material to make money, but my office has strict policy; so I avoid it by posting image that's not worth your time to try and market. your renderings have nice light quality. no hot spots...which is great! Couldnt gather much about architecture though. the mountain resort is a good attempt! Seems the tress and vegetaion was post processed I hope TBD incorporates support for PNGs in the next upgrade. what is the texture on the left roof?

Yeah, that can't be done. It would violate the rules of component definitions. Your options: either paint the instance, or make an instance unique (but then you are creating a new definition). Sorry I don't have better news...

@anssi said: Graphics card: Midrange is enough, the performance difference to high-end is negligible. The Nvidia QuadroFX series cards seem to be the least troublesome. lol, try telling Tom that - it seems as though his Quadro FX1700 also has some issues.

@kwistenbiebel said: I hope reworking the core to be 64 bit and multicore 'adapted' (not just 'compatible') is on the google team's task list. And if it's not...I'll come over at Boulder and write it myself on top of their whiteboards :egrin: together: "We want high poly...we want high poly....we..." :100k: Yeah, this has been at the top of a few peoples wish list for a while, getting SU to 64 bit computing. Rest assured kwistenbiebel, I feel exactly the way you do.

he is right and wrong. 32 bit XP will only allow you to use 2GBs (or with the modification 3GBs) of ram for programs. Default settings reserves no less than 2GBs for system use, and only lets you use 2 maximum for your software. Although it is capable of using 4GBs of total memory.

Chances are that it wont run games as well. If you go on Newegg and read reviews of some of the workstation boards you find that alot of stupid kids with alot of money buy these 1200 dollar GFX cards then freak out and complain and give the card a bad review because it doesnt run games very well.

I like the organization of the current layout. I can focus on the areas I am interested in. Sometimes there are posts with "off-forum" titles and if they are all lumped into one it would be, IMHO, cumbersome to sift through. I can be relatively sure that if I go to the Layout Forum I will be viewing posts that have to do with Layout, whatever the title may be. My $.02

Dean, Personally I don't care how many we get - I've just perused the members list, and for this 136, the list couldn't be stronger of heavy hitters and often contributors.. and now that we know Tom looks like father Christmas - why would you want to be anywhere else! poster-Shaun Tennant

nixone, good choice there, comments below @unknownuser said: Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz- 2DIMMs 128MB nVidia GeForce 8300 GS 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic Single Drive 16X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) w/ double layer CPU: Quad core will future proof you somewhat if you're not going to be upgrading again in the next 12 - 18 months. Just be aware that not all software can make use of additional cores, SketchUp are one of those that don't. Having said that, you'll be able to run SU together with other apps with ease. Most rendering apps can make use of additional cores, depends on how much rendering you do. RAM: RAM does play a role in computing speed, but the general public probably won't notice the difference in their everyday use of a PC. You might want to upgrade to 4GB of RAM at some point using that resource hog called Vista. RAM timings (CL ratings) is another thing that influences RAM performance, the lower the CL rating the better the RAM, for DDR2 667 RAM you should have either 3-3-3-8 or 4-4-4-12 timings, any higher than that and you've bought some slow RAM. GFX card: Not a bad choice I would have looked at a nVidia Geforce 8500 / 8600 though, depending on your needs, something with some more onboard memory would have been better. Personally I prefer ATi GFX cards due to better image quality. HDD: Not much info given here, but that should serve you well, I only use Western Digital drives though. OS: MS Windows Vista Home Basic. Hmmm, take a look at the features, don't know if it'll be the right choice (IIRC there are something like 11 diffrent versions). If I bought Vista tomorrow it'll be the Business edition, at the very least. Optical drive: Should serve you well, my brand of choice is Sony here. Motherboard: You've made no mention on which motherboard you're getting, this is one of the more important components in a PC. If the mobo isn't any good the PC may very well be unstable and perform poorly. Monitor: LCD monitors need to have a response time of less or equal to 5ms to be any good, any higher and you might experience ghosting. Hope the comments above helped somewhat and didn't confuse you further.
