      Hi juju,

Had a quick look at your DC. The main component does not seem to have been set to cut an opening (same for the sub components). There are some plugins out there that will cut multiple wall leaves but AFAIK the native SU DC will only cut one face - no matter how many cutting sub-components you build in to the DC. Also, for a window DC you may want to model the DC flat in the XY plane and choose 'Glue to vertical' when creating the finished DC.

Can I point you to an earlier post of mine if it will be of any help.

      https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=72271

Apologies if I have missed something in your DC and am talking nonsense!

Thanks for responding. I had a look at your thread previously, thanks.

Yeah, I think I messed up the "glue to vertical" setting, I thought I had selected it but evidently not, any ideas on how to set that after the component creation? I really don't feel like re-doing all the settings again. Component was modeled on the XY plane...

Regarding the cutting of faces, AFAIK cutting of multiple faces can be done as FlexTools has that option. I've just not figured out how they do that.

    • Help: Wall Cutting Dynamic Component

I put together a dynamic component (SU2020) as a workaround to add additional geometry required when modelling for Construction Documents. I'm having a little trouble getting it to cut cavity walls (multi skin walls it was specifically constructed for).

      DC_280cavwall_insert.skp

Anybody here that will take a look at it and guide me where I'm going wrong?

I used SKALP as well in the past, ran into some issues that made me try the CURIC extension as well, sticking with that one for the time being even though I kinda miss the reverse line projection (dashed lines) of SKALP.

It is not 100% clear if you want to use the component definition name or the name from the dynamic component attribute...
      Therefore I made both ๐Ÿ˜„

This is a quick and dirty plugin: USE YOUR OWN RISK!

After installing the extension you will get 2 new context menu item (right click on the component):

      • "Save as: DC name"

      • "Save as: Def name"
Will be grayed out if not applicable.

I hope this is what you want and it will works for you!

Why not rather load this to the PluginStore and link it here?

As opposed to choosing the outlet by a code (and having the visual reference appear then), can we do the search for the outlet module by scrolling through a visual reference as well?

    • RE: Layers Organizer by Thomas Hauchecorne

Layers Organizer (paid extension) is based on Layers Panel (free extension). Thomas is still credited but it is no longer his extension.

They took his base extension (which worked well, but had some bugs and was no longer being developed), with his permission, and developed it further. It has become an essential part of my SketchUp use.

And thanks for the heads up, I have not noticed the effect you speak of as I have not modeled much in the last couple of months.

Just to be sure, did you install SketchUp the correct way? When logged in as a regular user (not to be logged n as Administrator) right-click the installer file, select "Run as Administrator"?

    • RE: Medeek Electrical

I've probably asked this in the past, or I may be confusing myself with a query directed at another electrical extension dev in the past...

Say we would like to use our own 2D and/or 3D components, do you have a guide how to integrate this within your extension? Also, once this has been set up, I wouldn't like to overwrite it with any of your future updates, is this do-able?

Exactly what I (and many other people) have been saying for a long time, DON'T DRINK THE SUBSCRIPTION COOL-AID.

Once you're locked in by subscription, they've got you by the short and curly's.

Congratulations on scr3w1ng yourselves by supporting subscription software, it's a very short term gain and short term outlook on things to have.

SketchUp isn't very good with small geometry. Scale it up 10x (or 100x or 1000x, whatever suits the situation), do the rounding you want, scale it back down by the same factor.

Thanks Pilou. 3DVista is the kind of thing I was interested in. Has some really neat options.

Yup, 3DVista is the schizz, I'd like to get it some time but 500 Euro isn't something I can afford right now.

There are some other options obviously, take a look at this review of various virtual tour software for some more insight into options.

In the Components browser right click on the component you want to replace and click Select Instances. Then right click on the one you want to replace them with and choose Replace Selected.

Thanks for the process, very useful and many people do not know it.

I think the OP has the problem that there are 1000's of identical components, but they are identified separately, he needs something that would search them out and replace them (not manually) so that they would be instances of the same component. That is what I read anyway.

Yup, pretty much the connection people make to the word here as well.

I use different terms if I don't want to sound derogatory:

      • cheaper project = value engineered project
      • cheaper = more economically viable
      • cheap = inexpensive
