I can't install 2017. 2016 is as high as I can go. My system is 32 bit and 2017 and later are 64 bit.
Actually my hardware is all 64 bit but long ago I inadvertently installed Win 10 32 bit and now I am stuck with it.
If your C drive failed and you're reinstalling, then rather go for the 64-bit version? I have not come across any 32-bit software (that I use) that would not run on Win 10 64-bit.

Rather do a fresh install of everything, copying things over will not work for some things, may work for a few extensions, but overall it's a bad idea, more pain than the shortcut is worth.

All animations were done with sketch-up & Animator, and put together in premier pro.

Welcome to the forum! There is lots to learn here, I hope you'll get as much from it as I (and many, many others) have over the years. A quick side note, SketchUp is owned by Trimble and this forum has no affiliation to them.
Draw the cylinder in an unfolded fashion, draw the holes and array copy as desired, the use the extension "Flowify" to turn it into a cylinder.

Hmmm, it seems to be working as expected again. The only change I made was shortening the custom layer structure (.lml) file name by 5 characters (a space and 4 numeral). Go figure.

I've used the custom layer file without any trouble in SU2020Pro (and earlier) with Layer Manager (version 3.1.0). Your model is below the Z=0 position, that is the level those shadows are showing up at. Select all and move it up on the Z-axis.

Aaah, yes, what would be great is if these referenced documents / notes / whatever could be invoked with the text labels function in both SketchUp and LayOut!

It is not an extension in itself. It is a library required by Fredo's extensions.
Unfortunately since SketchUp 2021 is out, you will no longer be able to get a license to SU 2020. Keep in mind it is also subscription now, so you're going to keep on paying for the latest version of Sketchup every year. Stop paying and you lose access to your SketchUp work.
Your files from SU2015 will open and work just fine in the latest version of Sketchup. You will have to update your plugins / extensions to ones that are compatible with the latest version of SU.
Interesting methodology. Depending on time I might give it a try. Any chance you could get it to work that you select the line drawing and have it extrude the stairs from that? Obviously there will be another click or two involved to indicate start and end.
Do you perhaps have video tutorial? The EW page mentions 4 different kinds of stairs but 2 of those look very much the same (apart from structure thickness).
