Different operating system. Jason is showing the Materials window on a Windows machine. On Mac they use the native OS-supplied colors window doodad. As to the material showing as a flat color, you must be in shaded face style instead of shaded with Textures. Change that under the view menu orin the Styles Edit tab and you should see it.

I believe a Mac pro refresh is imminent, could be 16 core or even 20 at the high end fast but pricey ! My machine is not a year old yet so I'm in no hurry to upgrade. I expect I'll upgrade the cpu's from 2.93 to 3.46 when the price drops.

@jrm1 said: I'm a landscape designer. My SU models use a lot of 3D plants, which slows the Mac down after a while. I was wondering if there were any tips for keeping the size down. For instance, does grouping reduce the 'load' on the computer? Hey, do all the modelling in the landscape arch team. what i do is combine the VRay render wit photoshop. I avoid 3d trees like the plague. My pc (at work) and macbook pro (at home) both struggle with 3d plants at all. If I were you i would forget the 3d plants and buy a good image pack. This is the one we bought, obviously it is £300 but they do smaller packs. http://www.3drender.co.uk/products-page-2/bundles/all-in-one-bundle-complete-1000/#

I'm Mac based. 2008 8 core 10Gb RAM. Is that enough for a landscape with loads of plants? Model your stuff In regards to your rig, you are doing much better than me. Have you looked into a thomthom "clean up tool" http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=22920, that might help with some heavy landscaping. GLTY

Also you can do fine line work in Adobe illustrator or PhotoShop and then import to sketchup.

Hi folks. See this SU file for ideas. I made it with SU 4, when Scenes where named Page as an other tutorial on how to draw an oval or "Ove" in French. This is more egg shape than a circle scaled as an ellipse, although it is possible to make an egg shape by scaling only part of a circle. I just added a few scenes to show a possibility with basic tools. Broken egg.skp

What Wodan says. You are probably trying to apply the smoove tool on pre-selected geometry. Note that it is actually a good feature to be able to use the smoove tool on pre-selected geometry (and not be confined to a circle) just you should not forget to deselect before applying if that is not your intention. Edit; I also "guess" this from my own experience as I often make this little mistake myself.
