Move tool inferencing - can you turn it off?
-
Moving objects is proving extremely tedious because SU thinks I want to use inferences, most of which are completely useless and cause the objects to fly off all over the place. It's too damn helpful for its own good. Is there any way to avoid inferencing when using the move tool?
-
No, you cannot turn off inferencing in SU - more exactly the only thing you can turn off or adjust is length snapping and angle snapping (when drawing/moving or rotating) under Model info > Units.
-
Window>Model Info>Units. Unclick/disable length snapping.
See if this helps.
In addition to this, press/toggle the Alt key while moving. This turns on off the red green blue axes lock. in Blender, you have the move scale rotate widget. SU uses the inferencing technique. -
In SU on the PC, Alt with the Move tool enables Auto Fold.
JRM1, could you show an example of something you're trying to move? It sounds to me as if it it must be relatively small and you have entities in the background at some distance. It may be that just orbiting a bit will help.

I find that zooming in to an extreme degree allows freer line placement. It seems to allow you to "fly under" the inferencing radar.

Also you can do fine line work in Adobe illustrator or PhotoShop and then import to sketchup.
