John, If you have to go to France I'd suggest you travel on the TGV! I've been to France on a number of occasions and while enjoyable enough, I found the trips ..... well ...... a little boring! I found that unless one is fairly fluent in French, one's efforts at speaking French tend to be frowned on and one can be made feel uncomfortable. Rats! "Alternative switch that shadow option OFF and draw a [grouped] ground-plane where you want it to be..." That is what I have been doing.

What I usually do is click on the photomatched scene. Then click add new scene. Orbit scene a bit and then click on the newly added scene. The background image will have disappeared. Now switch between the photomatched scene and the copy to see if they align. Hope this helps.

Only way the problem could be resolved was by reinstalling SU over the existing installaton. Thank you for trying to help out.

Welcome to Sketchucation neverx. One would hope that John got his issue with the Shadows window fixed a long time ago. Otherwise he's been without shadow control for 5-1/2 years and numerous SketchUp version changes.

If you have Notepad++ set the default encoding to 'UTF8 without BOM'. You can copy/paste non-keyboard characters. You can also use UFT8 coding - there are many www sites giving these. e,g, http://www.utf8-chartable.de/ You need a look up table... For example using "\xB2" >>> ² in the output [but you could simply use ² instead]

Hi, Jim: Yes,it would make it easier to read if organized the way you have shown above. I tested the your latest version on my laptop. I noticed that if I select the component and manually scale it, the totally length does not update. If re-enter a value in the dialog and press enter or click the Apply button, then all fields update correctly. In one of the previous versions of the component I believe the total length would automatically update. I have been having some performance issues with my laptop so maybe that is the issue?

The idea of having a disclaimer at time of downloading is something to consider although once downloaded ..... I wonder if disclaimer text entered in the Model Description of the Model info > File tab could somehow be used for a message. But that would, I guess, require SU9 to have process functions like "OnOpen" as a part of the file structure itself. (Kind of funny, long ago, when I think back to using WordPerfect for DOS, I could associate OnOpen, OnSave, OnPrint, etc., script-functions to any of the menu items for a document or series of interrelated documents; I did this for an entire "electronic" operations and maintenance manual over 10 years ago.)

Yeah, that would help. BUT, I came to think of some unlogic in my ideas. And that is if you for ex set an attribute that says the group is locked. And then you unlock the group by setting group=unlocked. How to tell the state before? There might be methods dealing with this but I can't give an answer to that unless digging more deeply. Someone more experienced with classes and attributes might pitch in. Sorry, bout that.

You can readily do group.locked if not group.locked? once somehthing has changed and been observed, as you would have given 'group' a special attribute etc... My HolePuchTool has various observers, including a selection observer - so it a selection contains an instance with a certain attribute then the selection is adjusted to include all other entities with the matching attribute. So if you highlight a cutting-component that's been punched all of the geometry to its reveals are highlighted to, so when you move one the others move - thus it's like them being grouped - however if you select part of the reveal all of the reveal geometry is selected but the instance isn't - to allow for adjustments etc ... but as I said it's all pretty much academic for locking'.
