      Can a Ruby be developed to allow the user to override the default ground plane so they can raise or lower it for a specific scene?

      The ground plane I am referring to would be that which the Shadow Settings dialog uses.

        No.
        You need to move the entire model in the Z [blue], but doing that is code is probably harder than doing it by hand.
        Alternative switch that shadow option OFF and draw a [grouped] ground-plane where you want it to be...
