I don't think trialing a software for commercial purposes should be out of agreement. What it might be is dangerous if you can't find time to finish the project within trialing period. You should read the agreement though...

If the existing drive is dependable enough for a short period and you can install the new drive at the same time, you can migrate the contents from the original to the new drive. I did this when I replaced my C drive with a new solid state drive and I had very good luck with that process. Everything made the transition without a problem. The migration software was downloaded from Microsoft. If you decide to treat the computer as new with the new drive installed, you'll have to reload the operating system and everything else. If you go that router you should download a fresh copy of SketchUp and install it. If you are using the same version of SketchUp, copy the Plugins, Materials, Styles and Components folders and paste them into the new installation. It'll be fine. If you decide to upgrade to SU2013 then do not copy the plugins over from the old Plugins folder. Instead download them fresh. Styles, Materials and Components can be copied over, though.

It would be useful, if it was possible to turn off the axis snapping and edges snapping. Perhaps have different toolbox that would enable you to turn of different snapping depending on the situation.

SuperDrape only works vertically downwards, so you might need to reoriented you two pieces to suit. SuperDrawp clones materials too, but if that's not so important try my EEbyVectoreToObjects... Pull the selected face through the receiver form [along ANY vector - pre-draw a guideline if that'll help with snapping] and a now a new group is made, extruding the selected face up to the receiver object's surfaces. Edit that group and erase everything in it except for the 'draped' edges on the receiver's surface. Edit>Cut that group and edit the receiver group. Edit>PasteInPlace and explode the newly inserted group. Its edges should merge with the receiver group's geometry à la 'drape'...

Hi folks. Why not assign these locked objects to a layer. Then, hide this layer before selecting to assure that these locked object are not visible, thus not selectable. Make the layer visible once done. Just ideas.

Gerrit is correct. You can't see textures on faces outside of the current context when editing a component or group.

This is a display issue that can occur with some graphic chips if you have ' %(#000000)[Maximum texture size]' (in Preferences) and ' %(#000000)[Use Anti-Aliased Textures]' (in Model Info) turned on at the same time. Since the anti-alising setting is only stored per model (so you find models on the Internet where it's turned on), it makes sense to globally turn off the maximum texture size.

Hi Hamlet G, hi folks. In SketchUp (SU), layers are used only to control the visibility of objects. Normally, you keep base geometry on Layer 0 and assign groups or components to other layers. This is what you seem to be doing so, everything looks fine so far. The easiest way that comes to my mind to manage various combinations of layers visibility or invisibility is to use scenes. For example, suppose that you have a component called A. This components has two sub-components called A1 and A2. Now suppose that you want to show two options, one with only subcomponent A1 showing and the other with only subcomponent A2 showing. You create 2 layers that you can call whatever you want. Lets call then A1 and A2. You assign sub-component A1 to layer A1 and, of course, sub-component A2 to layer A2. Then you create 2 scenes that you can call whatever you want. Lets call one Option 1 and the other Option 2. On layer Option 1, you show layer A1 and you hide Layer A2. On the other scene, you show layer A2 and you hide Layer A1. Don't forget to update the scenes after changing the visibility of the layers. Maybe you can uncheck the box that tells the layer manager to remember the camera position. That way, if you orbit, pan or zoom between views, you wont loose that view when you switch option. Once this is done, a click on the relevant scene tab will make visible the required layer and hide the non required one and thus, will only show one of the two sub-component, even if they are occupying the same location in space. Just ideas.

You should be able to snap to any existing objects when scaling - it's the way you make an object fit exactly into a 'gap' etc... You can also type in dimensions when scaling. Typing 2.5 will scale x2.5 from what that scale dimension currently is BUT type 2.5m and that dimension becomes 2.5 meters. To get Sketchup to take your input as a dimension rather than a scaling factor you just type a units suffix at the end [m,cm,mm,',"]...

I know man, its a bit of an overdo, but first of all I wanted to see how it looks, and second of all, its a way of preventing such failures later on when I'll [actually] design, so I know everything works as it should (no dodgy, unprecise geometry etc...). Without this I wouldn't know SU doesn't like small scale geometry
