Ok, so if I were wanting to make a bottle that is red and I wanted to apply a label. Listed is what I would have to do?: make bottle and paint red import texture and apply the label image. in V-Ray material window, select diffuse tab, click transparent and make white. in diffuse tab, click "m" on transparent select bitmap on common drop down. click "m" in bitmap and select a grey scale of the label graphic. And that's it? I must be missing something. When I do it like this, the bottle turns transparent red. Jeff

Jeff, Sorry I didn't see your question earlier. I did some work on some DC cabinets a few of months ago. I wanted a cabinet whose door could be set for either a right-hand or left-hand door swing. The method I worked out was to create two doors, only one of which would be visible. There's a "Door Swing Direction" parameter which can be set for either a right or left swing. Making a selection unhides the approprate door and hides the other. Each door's rotation parameters adjust for their individual rotation axis. Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but it seems to work fairly well. Each door's rotation formula actually contains both a rotation AND a translation component - so that it works the way modern, higher quality hinges work. Thanks Guys, I'll check out those sources. I actually watched one "webinar" last night from the V-Ray site. It was quite cool. It was more towards using Photoshop after to enhance the render....well worth watching I must say. When I first started trying to render, I thought it was a process easier and quicker than what it actually is. I have put in quite a few hours in the last few days and NOW I realize that it is time like anything that you need to put in to get good at anything. The other important thing is that you should try to understand "why" you are using the settings the way you do to get the result you want. To just use input settings and numbers in the different fields because of a tutorial or manual will not help or speed up your learning curve. So, my advise to anyone new to rendering and or modeling is just be patient, ask questions and put the time in and practice. thanks for everyones help!!! Cheers, Jeff

I used to have several (or at least the demo version of); Indigo, Kerkythea, Irender, and I think one more that I can't remember. I got rid of them all except for Kerkythea. They all had something that was particularly good about them, one was fast, another let you do lots of work in Sketchup which made texturing easier, one had advanced texturing capabilities but was very slow - but Kerkythea has the best of all worlds as far as free renderers go, so it didn't make sense to concentrate on more than one renderer. I'm sure folks with paid-for render apps like Vray and Maxwell will have different reasons.

Google doen't need to "approve" anyone to teach although there is an "Authorised Training Program" in which if one is included, can wear the badge of it and it says it is authorised by Google (so you teach in the name of Google). Generally local resellers run such programs but well... the quality may depend on the knowledge of the reseller / its employee. Certainly there are exceptions and also, to become an authorised trainer, you need to take some exam or what. However what about an educational institution? Would they then not be allowed to teach SU (in fact, Google encourages schools to teach SU).
