How does one attain credentials for Sketchup?
-
Hi all,
I've posted this question before but maybe there are now some of the SU Development members belonging to this forum that can reply? I'd really like to have something to back up my experience to show clients and colleagues.
Thanks,

Jeff,
I suspect the best you will find is a certificate of completion for any course you may take. I think I remember that there used to be some sponsored by Google in various locations, but I have not seen much lately. You might be able to find a course at a local college or something as such.
For a software that has a free version readily available, I would think that the majority of users are self-taught. There are plenty of good books and on-line tutorials out there for you to learn from, and using the software is the only way to become proficient.
Showing your portfolio of completed works should be all that your colleauges and clients need.
Good Luck! The Gallery forum here is great for testing the waters with your work, and getting help for improvement if needed.

Great...thx for your thoughts. As I mentioned before, maybe a SU forum training camp where all that attend provide there own tutorials of techniques and at the end, we all get a certificate stating we attended it. What do you think?
Cheers,

Hi,
Maybe this might be of some use. Incidentally, I have literally found this certificate today, after losing it for a few months.
Around this time last year, I attended an official Google training class, here in Atlanta.
It was a one day course at intermediate level and afterwards they mailed a certificate stating that I had participated in
"Mastering 3D Using SketchUp, Essential Two". This apprently also earns me 3 AIA CES learning units, 3 ASLA CPE learning units.Hope the info is useful. I imagine that 2009 course details might be found on the offical Google home page.
Cheers all,
Nigel

Thanks Nigel. I used to get SU e-mails stating training in my city on certain dates but haven't had any for awhile. Not sure if they've stopped. I sent an e-mail to Google awhile ago but got not reply. Guess I'll try again. Thanks again Nigel.

I was browsing their site this morning, with an interest in perhaps taking another course this year.
Found this list for countries outside the US; I believe these training facilities are Google approved.Cheers,

Google doen't need to "approve" anyone to teach although there is an "Authorised Training Program" in which if one is included, can wear the badge of it and it says it is authorised by Google (so you teach in the name of Google). Generally local resellers run such programs but well... the quality may depend on the knowledge of the reseller / its employee. Certainly there are exceptions and also, to become an authorised trainer, you need to take some exam or what.
However what about an educational institution? Would they then not be allowed to teach SU (in fact, Google encourages schools to teach SU).
