Thea users: what are your results with a PhotoMatched camera exported from Sketchup to Thea?

I know that with Vray, Photomatching is a true pain in the @$$ because as soon as you try to render you realize the view is not the same.

I came up with a cluncky workaround some time before, but it's not very usable. More so when I check Artlantis and it renders Photomatched cameras flawlessly!

So again: if you do a photomatch in Sketchup and you export the photomatch scene in Thea, does it work immediatly?

Thank you, if you let me know.

    • RE: Native SU UV-mapping (maybe suitable for DUH thread?)

I usually get the same result activating the Bucket (B) and then alt-click on the correct texture. That way when you click with the bucket on other faces, it will apply the material with the collected UVs

I don't know how your answer is supposed to help me with either of the 2 question I asked.

Yeah, sorry for that, I wanted to give a hand but it was late last night πŸ˜„

What I was asking was which indirect illumination metods you are using: irradiance map and light cache? Irradiance map and quasi montecarlo?

If you are using Irradiance map, try putting higher values in Hsph Subdivs and Interp. samples. Like if you have 30/10 then use a combination of 50/40 a nd see what you get.

    • RE: 2 rendering issues?

please specify the rendering engines you are using.. if your primary engine is irradiance map, then you should crank up a little the samples (the values are usually 50/40)

As for the reflection, try giving more samples to antialiasing πŸ˜„

Hi TIG, I have never tried this plugin before, because I use other tools for windows in my models (that don't require sketchup). Having said that I am going to give this a spin, and if you could show me which file to change for an Italian localization i will be happy to make it for you πŸ˜„

    • RE: Plugin that restricts blue axis motion

Wow Gaieus, been using this program for three years now and I never thought of that!!

Rock1 what you do is activate move command, hover on the horizontal plane (no clicking) until the "On Face" tip shows up.

At that point press and keep pressed the shift key and move the object you need to move. They will stay on the xy plane no matter what πŸ˜„

Sometimes its so distorted that when you just hit zoom ever so slightly (the trick to getting Vray to render the match) it zooms way out and the perspective vanishing points are reset. It's just one of those things you need to tread carefully around I guess.

I can relate to that.. in my last job I was photomatching some presumably cropped photos of a model where we had to insert our 3D. One of these views was so distorted, as soon as did an orbit the entire view would rotate along the camera-target axis rendering that view useless...

I had to manually adjust the perspective in sketchup that time, no amount of photomatching would help me...

    • RE: IES light help...

That's true, but another trick is to set the intensity multiplier to 0... in that way vray will use the intensity registered in the IES file πŸ˜‰

    • RE: Vray Newb - Help!

Hi there.. its a refraction problem, and seeing the result i would guess you made a unique glass box to represent all of your windows.

Get the glass box, separate the single panes (grouping each plane one by one) and try giving the planes a little thickness.

What you are seeing right now is similar to this:

      Gaieus et al.,

I find the same problem with 3DS files or obj's when converted to skp. Is there any reasonable workaround to make these useable?

As an open source junkie, I can appreciate formfonts' and dynascape's collections, but would love a way to generate trees and shrubs without having to spend all day modelling them.

Tree[D] is a free software that lets you do that πŸ˜„
