If you need to edit a component which is correctly placed in your scene and find a difficult time to get to that component to edit it... just open component window, drag a copy of the component in open space and edit that copy, then delete. All the changes will affect the correctly placed component.

Also, if some plugins don't work, do the same operation above, but before editing scale the component to edit upwards by 10 or 100. Sketchup works better on bigger scales, but the changes you make in component will affect the non scaled component in your scene πŸ˜‰

I would be curious to know how well a razer mouse performs while using sketchup. Do you have any impressions in that sense?

I personally use a Cyborg Rat mouse and I find myself very well, but I really like Rezer Mice design πŸ˜„

      My mouse is this one:

    • RE: 3 QUESTIONS

Problem number 2 depends on how the camera works in 3d software. Generally speaking, when I see the plane cutting, I do a Zoom Extents and the camera resets.

Problem 1 and 3 I think depend on view settings: when you save a view it remembers which objects you have hidden and also time and date for shadow settings. So if you click on one of the view tabs, this has to be taken into account!

    • Name the window

Hi Guys, I have a quick question for all the architects and designers. How would you call this type of window here?

      window.JPG

They described it to me like a window for high rise buildings with a metal cable cross.

Does it have a technical name? I need to find more precise specifications to model it!

      Thanks!

    • RE: VRay for Sketchup Light Problem - No Lights

      hi,
are you sure, absolutely sure, that lights are enabled in the global switches?

Also, check intensity, color, if they are on a hidden layer, if the orientation of faces is right.

      Hope it's useful πŸ˜„

    • Pompeii is crumbling

Since no-one is going to tell you I will: here in Italy the financial situation is very very bad, seems there is no money for welfare.

One of the victims is the Pompeii Historical Site, we are letting one of the most famous Archeological Discoveries crumble down to pieces. It's our responsibility, and it would be a valuable asset, instead we let it crumble.

I hate my country right now. Would be nice if things changed.

    • RE: Wireless connection on windows 7 using bootcamp

Had a similar problem: on bootcamped windows, the wireless card didn't find my wireless connections, but found all the other ones surrounding my home.

I went in my router settings and changed the Channel Lenght setting from 20Mhz to Automatic (20/40Mhz) and it worked.

Try this and let me know πŸ˜„

    • RE: Tips about running more than one Sketchup

My tip would be: different versions save your life!

Keeping Sketchup 7 free at hand means you can import dwg files, and then open everything in Sketchup 8 free to do all the work!

      @tfdesign said:

      I'm from a Solidworks background. I've dropped Solidworks for Sketchup! I suppose that's quite a statement?! 😎

I still rate Solidworks though- but at Β£6000 a seat, it's hardly value for money! 😲 πŸ˜•

As a professional in Southern italy, one of the most depressed regions of europe, I can say I have seen them all.

People have told me Sketchup doesn't have dimensions, that it is not precise, that all the geometry interacts with one another. I too have (almost) ditched Archicad for SKP, simply because what I think I can do in SU, that is not the case in other software.

But, in every case, ignorant clients who wouldn't know a mouse from a hairdryer, scoff at me when I admit I'm using Sketchup. Plus I also had the bit: you're doing it in less time I'm paying you less.

So, nowadays, I just show them the 3D studio model while I'm preparing it for render, and I never tell them I made it in Sketchup. They don't want to know, I don't tell them. Some tricks of the trade are better kept to yourself πŸ˜‰

you're right, I forgot to attach the background image too, but you have answered my question: as I see it, you just exported the perspective view and rendered, right? No additional camera tweaking?

Plus the result of the render gives me some more information on how it could be done in vray.

Will get to try it out this weekend I think.

i know I'm off topic, but one thing that annoys me about chaosgroup forums is that posts are ordered from the most recent to the oldest, so the first post is buried on page six or seven of a long discussion.

I always have the feeling I am reading the thing backwards, so I don't go there so often. Maybe in the settings there's a way to change it?

Again, sorry if I'm off topic!

    • Looking for a particular version of Sketchup

I am asking a favour: I am in the need to install Sketchup 7 (not7.1) free Mac version, to try a couple of things, but it seems I can not find it on the web, plus I didn't have my mac at the time so I don't have a copy of the file myself.

Anyone would be so kind as to upload an installer to mediafire or megaupload?

      Thanks in advance, anyone! πŸ‘

or better yet a package of plant models for each country...

Your last sentence gave me an idea: you could use the X-frog database:

      http://xfrog.com/category/AP.html

At least to narrow down which plants you "can" find in a particular region and which you "can't".

Since the site gives you both the technical name of the plant and the common name, then it's an easy task to search for that particular plant in google.

How do you like this idea? πŸ˜„
