also, do a research for ThomThom's Vray tools. Thi plugin lets you set an aspect ratio in the model view, without resizing your window, and then you can export the image with exactly that aspect ratio

RE: Kicking Back
just a quick question, aside frome the very nice looking render: does Cyces produce Render Elements like RenderID and Z-depth?

Remove barrel distortion or issues where straight lines are bent away from the center of the image. Barrel distortion typically occurs on wide angle lens cameras. Use a third-party product to eliminate barrel distortion from images prior to using them within Match Photo. All cameras have a little bit of this distortion and it is typically worse around the edges of the image.
Nice.. maybe this would help when trying to render a PhothoMatch with vray?

RE: Vray rendering help!!!
just to explain why we are asking for the irmap and light cache settings: those light blots are probably due to small sample values!

RE: Photomatching Issue
Hi there,
I read this thread a while ago, and since I had some photomatched models, gave it a try at rendering.Turns out, valerostudio is right: I used the vray tools plugins by thom thom to get the image aspect right, but when I try to render, the point of view seems to render from a bit more far away.
Eventually I cam up with this workflow: you divide the original photo widht by its height, so to get the image aspect. This value you put in the image aspect in the output section of vray options.
Next you make the photomatch.
At this point, set up lights and everything for the render, and make sure the zoom factor of the physical camera is set to 1!
Before you render, export an image of the photomatched model, with the background.
Now, shoot the render, making sure you save the alpha channel too.
In Photoshop, import both the exported 2D image and the render, and align by eye the two images (it's not so difficult).
Finally, get rid of the photo with the model on top, and put the original photo as a background. Job done!

RE: Hello there
you mean drawing a vertical rectangle or circle?
from the camera menu, choose parallel view, then put yourself il left or front view.
when you draw now, your object is drawn facing the view.
for non-axis direction, you have to rotate, or you could use an existing rotated face to draw on top of that (you can block that direction using the shift key)
Maybe an image is more clear than this explanation:

RE: Arcghitectural Modelling - What plug ins do you use?
As an archViz, I use Sketchup all the time, and I Have created a very personal workflow. Let's just say I wouldn't be so quick in modeling without a number of plugins.
The plugins I use the most are:
- Extrusion Tools
- Tools on surface
- Opener (also referred to as HOLE)
- Lattice-izer
- Instances (so I can select all the instances of a component in 2 clicks)
- round corner
- joint push pull
- fredo scale
- mirror selection
- Rot90
I also make vast use of the sandbox tools, and I have a personal set of keyboard shortcuts. Section cuts I use a lot too.
To make roofs with tiles and everything you could use: IstantRoof
http://sketchupdate.blogspot.com/2010/11/instant-roof-instant-productivity.html
wich comes in two versions: free and pro.
Hope this helps

RE: Interior scene - dark spots in darker areas
These problems occur with low light and low samples in the Irradiance Map.
Try changing values of the camera exposure, and the use different values in:
hsph subdivis and samples
Normally values of 50/20 will work for external and a lot of light
Interior rendering want values like:
60/40
64/50
This is because the samples take the duty to render details: if the samples value is too small, the renderer looks to find detail where there is none, so you get the splotches.
Raising the samples value, usually gets rid of them

When HDPE (High density polyethylene)fabric is used to roof a parking structure and another similar parking structure is roofed in metal, there is a 30 degree difference in the interior of identical cars parked underneath. Not only does the metal not let heat exfiltrate through the fabric, It also reflects radiant heat bouncing off the parking lot back down on the car.
Who, in their sane mind, would cover a parking lot with metal?? It's madness!

RE: [Interior] Living Room, Conceptual
Hi! Great Renders and let me tell you I LOVE the tree panel on the right!
One thing: something strange is going on on the leather surface of the armchair... it seems it is tesselated a bit too much.
Can I know your render times?
Keep up the good work

RE: Q: Sketchup Component mapped Vray Materials
I think the same things happens for files on the same computer... re-opening a file with vray materials it sometimes forgets vray material settings
P.s: Devin, the ability to copy a Layer between materials would be awesome!!

RE: Is it possible to transfer scenes from one file to another?
I confirm now that you can put cameras in the model with the camera.rb script and copy/paste in place them in the new file.
Since I didn't find the original thread for that plugin, I'll just upload it here, hope it helps

RE: Is it possible to transfer scenes from one file to another?
There is also a camera.rb plugin that puts a camera in the position you are in that moment. I believe you can the copy/paste in place the cameras in the new file, thus creating the scenes from the cameras...
I don't have the time to try it out right now, I'll get back to you to tell you if it worked!

RE: V -ray mess...
I would try adding an HDR to the Background slot, so your brushed metal has something to reflect.. otherwise your surface will always reflect white!

RE: Classic interior lines
very very nice
what is the name of the painting on the first floor in the first image?

RE: What will happen to the old Asgvis.com site?
What I'd really like to know is if there will be a full compatibility between materials from vray for 3dsmax to vray for skp/rhino... I think that would be a nice thing..
