that's exactly what it is... you're viewing in parallel mode, but vray is rendering a perspective camera! Used to baffle me too

wonderful, wonderful job. The driven passion you have is an inspiration to all of us!

Am I the only one that when I read mrSky and mrProxy I read it like "Mister Sky" " Mister Proxy"?

RE: SU to MAXWELL - Transparent wall is rendered black?
are you sure the glass panes have thickness? Realistic renders don't render glas nicely if it is applied to simple planes..

RE: Would you like to sit down? EDITED
The concept is quite nice, but maybe I would make each band bigger: make one band equals one seat. That way you have a modular seating system, which needs fewer screws, and you can make a 2/3/4/5 seat variation

Here's v1.5 http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=329765#p329765
Irrespective of their locale, users may now type a '.' OR a ',' as a decimal-separator, depending on their preference, for any of the tools' dialogs - issues with conversion of strings to lengths from potential locale-wrong input is addressed in the code behind the scenes.Feedback please...
Just tried it, win7 64 bit skp 8... works fine and I must say this is one of the best plugins ever made!!!

RE: VRay texture transfer
you have two ways of doing whato you ask: the first would be to extract to 3ds and ask Sketchup to write texture information. In this way all textures are exported to a destination folder.
The second is a plugin you find here:

RE: Exterior House
Hi there, nice renders!
As brodie said: go in MenΓΉ Camera and select 2 point perspective. In that way vertical lines appear parallel and the visualization becomes more tidy.
Eye level grass could be obtained with diplacement.. have you tried it? Problem is, displacement wants very powerful computers..
Anyway, good job

Broomstick's WIP - Trestle Desk
Hi everybody... this is a Weekend project to design the legs for a desk I have at home. The idea was to make a variation to the Canonical trestle desk like you can see here:
I'm thinking of having the legs produced (i already have the desk top), but I'd like to receive C&C from the community to know if:
1- you like the idea
2- you think it's usable and comfortable
3- you think the whole thing would collapse!
4- you know of a similar design I didn't know about (which would be really appreciated)Version using an Imac
Version using a PC
Hope you like it and let me know!

RE: Network rendering

When I set to render a scene in a network, I must have the SAME scene open in all computers, right?
No that is not necessary, what you need is to activate the drspawner on the target machine, before rendering on the main machine. You need to tell the main machine where the other pcs are on the network, and finally you need to make sure the folder where your model and vray materials are, is shared with all the other machines.
I hope this helps

RE: What I love and hate of iTunes and iOS
what I hate about iphone/ipod/itunes: people who buy iphones in my country often have a very hazy understanding of how it works, and this results in late night calls to me, because I am the tech guy (ironic, being an architect) to call in those cases in which the syncronization deleted all the contacts from these people's phone...
This is why I for one, do not own an Iphone, and probably never will

What could be an issue is that Sketchup Models lack the face "subdivision" which is common for 3ds max solids, so tools like meshsmooth, bend, turbosmooth and other things will not work properly on an imported model!
I'm assuming you mean SU models are made up of n-gons. This is easily overcome by using the cut tool that comes with Artisan to make your meshes all quads.
I'm talking about topology, I don't think 3ds max recognizes loops and rings in the imported 3D (but I have to check!). It is true I read about a re-topologize thingy in the new Max 2011

RE: SketchUp into MAX
I don't see why you could not model in Sketchup and then render in Vray for 3DS max... Since max 2011 the program imports directly sketchup models, so I see no problems there.
What could be an issue is that Sketchup Models lack the face "subdivision" which is common for 3ds max solids, so tools like meshsmooth, bend, turbosmooth and other things will not work properly on an imported model!
My experience tells me that whoever says Sketchup isn't good for building 3D, basically doesn't know how to use the program well (often ignoring basic things like groups, components, layers and sun system) so advises against it. In some other cases they say that Sketchup is not good for organic modeling (and this is partly true, even if new plugins like artisan are changing the picture quite a bit).
I use Sketchup and 3Ds Max for archviz, and I see every day that the two programs are basically on the same level for architectural modeling. What Sketchup lacks is the ability to cope with heavy models (like trees, plants and the like), and that's why I put those in the model once I import it in 3DS.
Another tip I can offer is this: turn on shadows in the model in sketchup before exporting. When you import, accept to import the sun system: in this way you have the sunlight in the right position (day and hour), so when you put a vray sun in the scene you can simply align it to the imported sun system
Let me know what you think about what I wrote

RE: Help making this 3d ornament
couldn't you just make a fairly similar form from a plane and then twist it?

broomstick.. you're giving me too much credit. i did this in pshop... but that is actually a great idea
An idea that I tried as soon as I saw your renders... to no avail: fog only works "upwards" it seems, and I was not able to replicate the effect you made there. I realized after writing my comment that it was photoshop...
Nice images tho, very professional.
Sometimes a nice model with clean lines and good colors is enough to convey one's idea
