sorry to hear that. Why don't you try a linux live cd like ubuntu to recover the files?

RE: 1ST Kitchen & Vray
I second the stright camera suggestment: keep vertical lines vertical, and everything becomes better
-
RE: Vray net render
Also, be sure that the textures used in the model belong to a folder that is shared over the network, otherwise the slave machine will render only the diffuse color, giving you strange result.
And I second the suggestion of wired links, wireless won't work!

Tell me: does it work on mac?

that's strange, I had just installed the software on the computer :S
oh well, I'll ask to take a further look!

RE: Leopard hang fix
Hello all,
I am about to buy a month old imac 24 2.8, but I am concerned with this slowness. I had the opportunity to try the pc, and install SKP (version 6) on it to feel how it went. It was all ok, apart from a certain slowness in orbiting. Well it wasn't really slow... the orbit movement wasn't exactly fluid, it came in steps, not in a unique animation.I don't know what version of Leopard was on that machine (i forgot to ask, but I assume it is the latest), and I am wondering if this package will solve my problems or not.
Thank you for any answer on this!

Ciao a tutti, e buon sketching

Italian Sketchup Site
Not sure where to post it, so..
I have been working hard on this project since november of last year. It comes from the need to have an Italian site that speaks of Sketchup, and shows the potential of its plugins. Here in Italy, the interest is only in 3d studio max, and, for what it's worth, autocad, so me and a friend of mine have put up the site and correlated blog to spread a little word.
The site is at: http://www.3dita.it
and the blog is at http://www.3dita.it/index
I hope I am not spamming too much, and would like to know if I can post this news, in Italian, in the localized section of the forum.
Ciao from Napoli

I am not understanding this. But if I am... just wow, post a tutorial man!

I've been running AutoCAD as my primary app for 15+ years. Trust me that gorilla is still fast asleep.
yeah, I seccond that! Although, the freeform tools look impressive. I'm gonna try ArchiCad 12 as an alternative to AutoCad this afternoon.
And, i assure you, you will love it.
I have been working with archicad since version 9, and I can tell you that version 12 is an enourmous leap. It helps productivity, it is quite fast and responsive (well, compared to previous versions at least), it delivers good models in no time and excellent models with little effort.
The only thing you have to get used to is the idea of working on the floor plant first, and then going in 3d/elevation.
If you need some tips to get started, send me a private message

Note that "by profession" I use SU for archaeological/historic reconstructions. Apart from that, I mostly hang around these forums and model whatever people with problems need.
That's enormously interesting! Do you find yourself well with SU in such a way of work?
Which one?Archaeology or help forum work?
Well, joking aside; SU IS the perfect tool for this. You can never make sure that what you imagine to be a reconstruction of a building you only dig up the foundations of will be good. With SU, you can always go back and quickly adjust your theory to the facts as more and more evidence come to light and the idea is getting a final shape.
Right! I should have quoted you better. Apart from that, your take is really interesting

RE: Idea for an active selector
@remus: I had thought of that too. Another key would be the same, space bar perhaps?
@todd: there is a script that activates the selection arrow as a default, when you open SU, instead of the line. I had a look at the code and it works with a "listener". I think something similar could be done, if not i won't think about it any longer

Idea for an active selector
Hey all. I have been thinking about this for a while, but my knowledge of ruby script is an absolute zero.
Before getting addicted to SU, i did my models in ArchiCAD (well, still do..), and I am thinking of a way to mimic a function that is very useful in this software:
whenever you press the shift button, regardless from the active tool, the selector becomes active allowing you to select other parts of the model. When you release the shift key, the tool that was active returns to be active.
This allows you to work in a very fast way in archicad, and is the number one thing I miss from that program.
Any of you ruby script wizards can think of a way to do this in SU?
I hope I have explained myself, and that I gave you something to think about..

I really like the result of the wall material (apart from colour, but I kinda like it
Could you share the settings for that wall finish? It would help me a lot, I am just starting to learn vray

RE: Planning a Sketchup model? Strategies - share your thoughts
I have a fixed approach to modeling, using layers and groups to determine an order in the file.
I do a lot of architecture modeling, so the first thing is to import the cad files. I then proceed to put all of the lines of the cad on a unique layer (so I can turn it off in the end). Once that layer is prepared, i block the group made from the cad lines, and I start my modeling on that.
All the geometry starts at layer 0. When i finish a part, I group it and put the group on a new layer.
For example I draw all of the exterior walls of a building, I group that geometry, and then I put it on a "extwalls" layer. In this way all base geometry still lays on Layer0, but when I need to turn off a Layer I know that those groups will be turned off.
CAVEAT: from experience, if you eventually export your model in another program like 3dStudio max, this approach is not so good, because all geometry will be read on layer0!
If you otherwise render in Vray, or export in Artlantis, then you are good to go...Selecting the scenes at first is a great Idea... I always just get carried away in modeling, so at first I really don't know wich parts I'll show. Knowing it before... that would help me a lot

RE: DoubleCAD XT, free commercial use 2D detailing app.
Dear wmanning,
I am a long time user of Autocad and ArchiCAD, and I decided to give doublecad a go. Imagine my wonder when I saw all the tools from autocad, paired with the edit functions of archiCAD!!Yesterday I was like... OMG OMG OMG this is too good to be true.
This program is truly something, and I am going to use it a lot for my 2D drafting.
A piece of advice would be to localize it in Italian... you would have an enourmous return on investment for an Italian version: you just can't imagine how much a free (or even a pro) tool like this is needed in a lot of design firms!
Nice Job, really!
