There is something in the way that prevents pushpull from going inward. Try selecting the face and using move instead.

@Alohaa said in How to construct a funnel: @Dave-R PLA it biodegradable and food-safe! I was doing some reading about that. While PLA may be food safe, the dyes used to color it may not be. Several articles I read also indicate that the hot end nozzle may not be food grade and could impart toxins into your prints. One article for example: https://www.wevolver.com/article/is-pla-food-safe

Thank you for your comments and suggestions. I made these connections some time ago and you can only see the radii if you look at them from close up. They do not bother at all. And these parts are very small, compared to my current project. I am doing this with a 3mm router, so the radius is 1.5mm, which will not bother you at all. @alohaa said: "Generally don't use measure - use pencil instead" Why not use the measure tool? That's what it's there for! And as written, this applies to both measure tools. If I measure a length and I want the result to be retained, I can only use the tool in question. Because less is more. Line tool delivers the same result without need in extra effort

@alohaa said: Unfortunately, there are not only straight lines, and the curves are not regular. You only have to trace a single edge segment in each character to get the face to file. You don't have to trace the entire character. You've been using SketchUp long enough by now that you must know that SketchUp represents curves with short edge segments. @alohaa said: I'll see how easy it is to do in Inkscape./quote] There's no point in going back to Inkscape for this. @alohaa said: What I don't understand: how could there be faces in a drawing that is flat and where there are only lines? I don't understand what this means. You can have edges in SketchUp with now faces. There's nothing for Push/Pull to do until you add those faces, though.

Hi Alohaa, This is a common issue when scaling objects for 3D printing. What is happening is that you've scaled the object itself down to 50mm, but the internal units are still set to millimeters from the original 500mm length. The easiest way to fix this is to apply a unit conversion to the object after scaling. For example, in your case you would: Scale the 500mm object down to 50mm (10% scale),Then under the object properties, change the unit settings from millimeters to centimeters. This will convert the new 50mm size to 5cm, matching the scaled units.A "free printable template" is a pre-designed layout or pattern that you can download and print out at no cost. These templates are often available in various file formats like PDF, Word, or image files, making them easily accessible and printable. Now when you export or load it into your slicer, it should come in at the correct 50mm length.Basically you have to make sure the object units match the new physical size you've scaled the object to. Applying a unit conversion after scaling accomplishes this.Let me know if you have any other questions! Proper scaling and unit setup is crucial for 3D printing prep.

Thank you for the offer! I have since realised that I did not create the text in question in SU, but in Estlcam, the program in which I load the dxf and define the milling paths, and which is just as inflexible as far as this question is concerned, and have been able to identify the font in the long list: Monotype. But, since I sometimes create it directly in SU, the question still arises. I will install this extension. If I don't get along, I will post the skp. With kind regards Alohaa

The quality of the imported image will be determined by the original picture. You can see how you can use Inkscape with Sketchup by looking at the attached sample skp.

He is referencing Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy... https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/for-math-fans-a-hitchhikers-guide-to-the-number-42/ 42 is the answer to everything and to nothing but not related to your issue. You are mostly likely experiencing crashes because of geometry formation rather than the angle. But there's also many unknowns as to why. If I were to ask SketchUp to round a corner with 60 segments at a distance of 0.25mm I would expect it to crash. You need to provide more context for someone to offer a reason or solution.

There are several ways to get actual geometry from an image. Import the image as an image and trace it with the various drawing tools, use a PNG with transparen't background and Image Trimmer from TIG's SKM Tools extension, or use some raster to vector converter to generate the line work as .dxf which you can then import into SketchUp. Which is best depends on the image and what you need out of it.

I have just notified that by myself and was to late to delete the thread (if possible). Sorry What misled me about this is that there is the option Make unique in the contextual menu, even though it is a single item, from which I concluded that there was some problem.
