Yet another way; Draw your circle as you would normally Select all (your circle), now select the Rotate tool Click once but do not release the left mouse button but drag it horizontally until you find it aligned to where you want NOW release the mouse, pick another point and start the rotate operation as you would otherwise. I wish the circle and polygon tools worked the same way...

Eric, You might try a more CAD like program for what you want to do, such as DoubleCAD. I haven't used that one personally, but I hear it is good (and free). For what you are suggesting I would import the pdf into my CAD program, but it isn't cheap and it's on the Mac. Try also: eDrawings by SolidWorks. It all depends on what formats the program you use will accept. You may need to translate to another image format to bring the image in and scale it up, to be able to draw over it and measure. Note that bitmap images do not have discrete elements to measure. You need to trace or use your measuring tool over the image--without aid of snapping points or references. Always see if your associates can provide dwg or dxf files, which are vector files that SU and other programs can open, and DO have discrete elements that can be directly measured and manipulated in many programs. Another way to say what TIG and Hono have, I guess. Peter

As he was a bit cryptic You make a new material then edit it to add a texture image, browsing to the jpg/png etc you want. There are batch material importers posted on the forum that import all images in a selected folder as mew materials - you do have to manually edit the 'tiling' size etc though...

Never mind... I am answering my own post. The book was not exactly clear on the fact that you select the move tool, press alt, but then pull with COMMAND since I am on a Mac. Thank you Mr. Chopra for your video tuts on You Tube.

I am sort of starting to hope that we had a separate Metric version of Sketchup. The present situation is that the majority of users have to cope with a shoddy translation system added to an odd medieval system of measures that bounces on you whenever you turn your back. Anssi

This puzzles me a lot the model has hardly any geometry, i managed to get the file size down to 13.3MB thats all. That is a pretty big filem my latest model was only 12MB http://liam887.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/final-shot1.jpg and for this to be more is very puzzling! My best guess is that the textures you are using are much higher resolution than they need to be. Have you tried making them smaller and then re-saving your file and checking the size? Apart from this I have no idea I tried my usual tricks but only like you only got to 13.3? good luck and when you find out what was wrong let me know I would be interested to find out!!

quote:on further investigation I've found that the component is correctly named in the windows folder where it resides but it is named Group## in the components pulldown in sketchup, very annoying. Me too, but not consistently, ie: some take the name, some don't. I dont have the guide problem tho' Baz Windows7

@danbig said: Have you made any headway on getting unique control over the component copies? Hi Dan, Yes I have. I've attached the new and improved Drawer Cabinet. Take a look at the Component Options and you'll see a number of things that are programmable. Regarding the drawers, it's programmable with 1 to 4 and each drawer is programmable in size. If you use the Interact tool, you'll see each drawer box is different depending on whether it is a top, bottom, or middle drawer. Specifically the top and bottom clearances change. As you can guess, the copy command wouldn't have worked due to the programmability of each of the drawers. I did use selective hiding instead. Cheers, Mike EDIT: Replaced the DRAWER CAB.SKP file with an updated one. Drawer Cab.skp

The original post was to consider industries, but how about polling cross industry uses? Design, reconstruction, modeling, entertainment, or production to begin with. Given the most popular use of SU promoted by Google, reconstruction would probably be its predominant use. Lucky for us minority users.

I had this happen while trying to save to a usb drive some time ago. Try a Save As on your skp file and see if it will overwrite the pre-existing file. Or, rename the file to something else. Close the program, restart the program and call up the new file with Open, and navigate in your OS folder hierarchy rather than from the MRU list at the bottom of the drop down. I am only trying to help. I have a feeling you already know the above procedure. Good Day

@pbacot said: sasra Please attach the SketchUp file. In the example picture I don't see a straight line. You need (1) a shape, (2) a straight line, and (3) the curved path, all set up in relation to the axes as in all the examples. I can't tell by the picture. here's the skp file (in 2017 ver) the sraight line is actually under the shape shape test.skp
