Indexed colors for layers?
-
One of my frequent collaborators, who uses Autodesk, is asking me if I can set my SketchUp layers to indexed colors (for AutoCAD print styles) instead of the RGB values that I've been using.
Is this possible?

He wants it so that when he opens a SketchUp export in AutoCAD, it comes with Index colors associated to each layer? Is that the idea?
What do they normally come in as now? This might be an exporter problem, and not something that can be done inside of SU. I don't often go from SU to CAD, so I'm not exactly sure how it works currently. I'll try to poke around if I get some time (not likely lately though

The default for SUp >> DWG/DXF colors are RGB >> ACAD color - 'indexing colors' is NOT an option... unless you post-process the file - this could be most easily done with a DXF, as its layer colors are readily found and editable.
You would then need to export the SKP as a DXF, make a list of the SKP's layers' colors and edit the text in the DXF so that it no longer has RGB [transposed to the standard AutoCAD 256 values (I've a look up table somewhere??)] and reset the color for each layer to 'indexed color' references...
However, a SKP only has colors in RGB permutations, so what's the advantage in changing them to be 'indexed' anyway ? It seems a lot of effort for no noticeable difference........ -
Thanks, Chris and TIG.
I think a quick change of the layer color in the DWG exported from SketchUp from within Autocad is the quick fix here. (Chris, you got the scenario just right).
