@unknownuser said: questions that seem to come up again and again I totally agree with these points. It's great how you distilled all the discussions and feature requests into these three points! In fact on that has been discussed a lot is the SketchUp App Store! (read here). We ruby developers haven't dared to take on this (believing the SketchUp team would suddenly unpack/release such a gift). Now still nothing of that happened for a long time, except someone was working on such a store, than it got quiet again – but it seems this silence is the foretoken of something big. Let's look forward on SketchUp 2013. @unknownuser said: allowing Trimble to integrate it's construction software and tools without turning SU into a purely construction-oriented program. That [extendibility/platform] is Trimble's vision, and exactly the reason why they bought SketchUp.

@way77 said: Discovered the trick... duplicate the list, delete first one and then the copy. Both color lists are gone.... finally. What worked for me: duplicate the EZdraw list, but remove the " copy" suffix that is automatically added to its name before clicking "OK." Then delete it & SketchUp will pop up a dialog box complaining that it can't delete "null" but both copies will be gone when you dismiss the dialog. EDIT: This method does not persist -- IOW, the EasyDraw color palettes lists will be gone, but they will reappear the next time you launch SketchUp. To get rid of them forever, check the ~/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Materials folder (the user Library folder, not the system or root level ones) for any folders with a corresponding name (like "EasyDraw") & trash that folder. Also check the ~/Library/Colors folder (again, the user Library folder) for any files with the extension ".clr" with names corresponding to the unwanted EasyDraw palettes (like "EZD_WebSafe.clr" or "Toolbar.ezdraw.clr") & trash those too. Note that Easy Draw creates these color list (.clr) files the first time the app needs to access something that uses them (like the Easy Draw toolbar) so if you run Easy Draw after removing the unwanted color list files it has already created, it is still possible that other ones will be created & show up in the SketchUp Materials lists (or that you will get unexpected results if it needs one you have removed). FWIW, page 14 of this Easy Draw version 3 manual lists all the color list files that version might install, & may be helpful in determining where some of the "mystery" color palettes came from.

What TIG is preaching is the truth! Always draw everything on layer 0. Only assign components and groups to specific layers. Once you get in this habit, problems like this will go away, and you will find that the layer management control is much more straight forward than ACAD.

@dave r said: [attachment=0] I keep my drawing window slightly narrower than my screen and leave the additional windows outside. They stay there unless inadvertently closed. That has to be about the single best tip I have seen. It is like working in ACAD with the properties dialogue box open. I was fully amazed when I hit 'save toolbar position' closed SU and opened it up again and the flyouts were still in same position

@kaja9 said: well, and avoid them, probably means working with curves with less segments, does it? and if I keep this face, can I correct it somehow? Thanks for your explanation You can use a lot of curves if you like (and need them!), as long as they are not too small. Perhaps you can correct the faces, but I think you can remake them much faster, e.g. with the follow me tool... [image: PdNS_train_followme.jpg]

Thanks for some feedback. Yea I am familiar with lumber dimensions, these just happen to be rough sawn to full 3"x8", then left exposed. I am not designing this part of the house, these are actual measurements from the house. I am modeling it as built now so I can see when I make changes what it will involve. I guess I should apply the material to the faces and not the group/component so I can rotate it to get the proper grain direction?? Are you saying put each group on a different layer?

V8.0 is released https://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?pln=2Dtools Or via the ExtensionStore dialog. It fixes a glitch with v2026 whereby some MAC users could not get the TAB key press/up to work to open dialogs in some tools, and some PC users had to press/up 4 times to make TAB work. But <=2025 users had no issues. I've now improved the onKeyUp methods to optimize TAB use in v2026, but it can still be flaky for some users. including me needing 4x press/up! So as an additional option I've added one press/up on the Shift key which will also open the dialogs, in certain tools like LineStyle and Hatching. The Help pages explain this dialog opening more fully. Please try and report back issues...

My current settings are: Length snapping on (0.100000mm) / precision 0.000000mm Angle snapping at 15 degrees / precision 0.0 (just FYI) Your procedure seems to be correct. Sometimes you need to rotate way out of line and redo the rotation to get it "spot on". Why/when? If you failed the first time and got is almost correct. Then you cannot rotate that last little correction. Maybe this is what happened in your situation. Same thing can happen with moving geometry in certain occasions. p.s. have you checked the drawing axes orientation and their origin compared to the systems axes and origin?

Are you rendering the views in a renderer? A standing seam roof with actual raised seams create many edges, which may look OK depending on the rendering. A texture may suffice if your output is SU or LO. What have you been trying and what do you find unreal about it? For a lot of roofs, ValiArchitects Instant roof does make a standing seam with raised seams made of a single face. And Welcome! Peter Here are some examples, screen shots but similar if exported, or used in LayOut. Note if the seams are actual faces and edges, a moire effect occurs sometimes. With a material (line plus shadow texture) you don't get that but it can be faded or blurred at an angle or distance.[image: pkty_Screenshot2012-12-20at11.20.35AM.png][image: cEAG_Screenshot2012-12-20at11.22.16AM.png] If you use a renderer, it would be different, and the actual raised faces might be more desirable.

It's possible. We have a small number of components we use regularly that I could change, however, that doesn't stop someone else from being lazy and bringing a new one in however they want and not changing the layers beforehand. I think I may get an effect similar to what I want if I delete the layers I don't want and move them to the default layer. It seems to still allow me to control what I want for the most part..

Reinstall again ("repair installation"). It seems for whatever reason, the first install of Layout 3.0.16846 doesn't update the version number.
