I am trying to create a template that will be used for project presentations for layout and site logistics. I have created a group of layers that fit my needs but when I bring in other components they bring in their layers. I can change the layer of the component but the pieces that make up the component are on different layers. In order to change each one I would have to go into each piece and change the layer. Some of the components have multiple groups nested in them. Once I change the layer I want to purge the unused layers from the project. I could bring in a component and delete the layers and change them to the layer I want, however, if there are multiple I can't do this with Layer0, also if I were to bring in multiple components there is the possibility that other pieces are on the same layer as a different components pieces. Is there any other way I could merge the layers from one layer to the one I want without the hassle of trying to delete each one or edit each piece.

    Thanks,
    Evan

Is reducing the layers to one for the components before importing an option?

        Evan,

        Like Cotty suggests...

What I would probably do is to clean those components from their layers if they are (probably) unnecessary. You can open them as separate skp files, delete the layers (moving everything to the default layer) and save the file.

Or (in an empty SU window) import such a component, do the same and copy it back to its original location from the "In model" browser (you can open a secondary browser from the small + sign at the top right of the component window).

This would need some manual job as well but you could get rid of those layers forever.

        Gai...

It's possible. We have a small number of components we use regularly that I could change, however, that doesn't stop someone else from being lazy and bringing a new one in however they want and not changing the layers beforehand.

I think I may get an effect similar to what I want if I delete the layers I don't want and move them to the default layer. It seems to still allow me to control what I want for the most part..
