It looks like it's a complex Dynamic Component [DC] using 'onClick' methods to increase its size. First learn about DCs, and get as many examples as you can - there are many on the web... Then experiment... PS: You posted in the wrong forum... I'll relocate it...

You are not completely clear in your explanation... If you have two Graphics-Cards on your computer, then if you are currently set up to use the 'poor' one, then you need to open the NVIDIA Control Panel and ensure that SketchUp is set to use this better GC under 3d-apps, and also let SketchUp choose its own settings... Having had a major system failure and rebuild has probably meant that your computer's GC settings are set up wrongly...

It sounds like you are confusing components and groups. I'm guessing you are selecting some of the geometry in your model to make a component but the selection isn't being replaced by the component. This normally happens if you aren't selecting all of the connected geometry and you haven't ticked the box for Replace selection with component. Make sure that box at the bottom of the window is ticked before creating the component. You can access advanced camera settings in SketchUp on the PC and adjust the near and far planes manually. Experiment with those settings. You may be able to reduce clipping but you may also find you create worse problems for yourself.
