I'll do my best to live up to frighteningly, small children have been known to run screaming from the room at my approach, could be my jokes though. Another tool you may want to look at is shape bender, very handy for making curved ramps and such.

Hi With regards ruby it would pay to post your enquiry in the developers' forum to get more responses Personally I am in a similar position, learning ruby, building DC to be used with code, interest is framing With regards swapping, and cut list consider the example again with a group of Right end components if you copy the side DC and replace the geometry within one of the Right ends with it, set the DC to required parameters, then right click, outer shell then explode, all updated and can be seen as complete in cut list Cheers Philip sides.skp

@dave r said: ........ If you are able to select the face inside without selecting the outside, you've solved it. .... In menu View > check 'Hidden Geometry' to be certain that the window loop (its outer four edges) does not have any hidden line connections (due to importing the CAD file) with the surrounding geometry. They don't affect the Push/Pull tool but you say that you are dragging the entire wall (side?) with the window. So this sounds strange with applying the P/P tool. It's more of an indication that opposite faces may not be completely parallel

@jpalm32 said: @dave r said: Sorry. Cotty to the rescue. I've never ever run into the need to convert a bunch of copies of a group into components. When importing a OBJ or 3DS I get groups and/or all separate componets (none duplicated) Well, that kind of stinks, doesn't it? Since most of what I draw doesn't exist in another format, I guess I've not run into that problem. Sometimes I import CAD files and they come in as component but I rarely want them the way they are when imported. It's interesting how different disciplines run into different issues.

Ah... You didn't specify all that before. I don't know of anything that's going to give you all of that info automatically.

Solved!!! I just tried inserting with the "inch" unit rather than the "mm". I was thinking that If I change the unit in CAD to mm and scale the object accordingly. It will be imported with the same mm unit. This model is probably modeled in the inch unit (Im guessing). I tried bringing back the unit to inch in autocad and inserted with the inch unit in the import option (though Im in mm unit in SKP) The size matched very well and the model is no longer broken. Thanks everyone for your input.

It's a matter of 6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. If the component files were saved as a component within a file then they wouldn't work properly when opened directly in your model, they would have a second top layer. A container within a container. It's not just dynamic components. If you select some geometry and save as a component, it will create a component that you can use happily via the component browser, but if you open the file itself it will be loose geometry. If you open an empty model and insert the component then save that model and upload it to the warehouse, it will then get a second coat if you download it again into another model. So you have a choice, one way you are over dressed the other way you are naked.

If you want to try these. Might be a combination of the two. Use follow-me-and-Keep plugin on the the profile and center line. make the profile wider than the road at any point. Then drape the road edges (or intersect).

If the existing drive is dependable enough for a short period and you can install the new drive at the same time, you can migrate the contents from the original to the new drive. I did this when I replaced my C drive with a new solid state drive and I had very good luck with that process. Everything made the transition without a problem. The migration software was downloaded from Microsoft. If you decide to treat the computer as new with the new drive installed, you'll have to reload the operating system and everything else. If you go that router you should download a fresh copy of SketchUp and install it. If you are using the same version of SketchUp, copy the Plugins, Materials, Styles and Components folders and paste them into the new installation. It'll be fine. If you decide to upgrade to SU2013 then do not copy the plugins over from the old Plugins folder. Instead download them fresh. Styles, Materials and Components can be copied over, though.

Yeah, it's not going to work the same way... but you can still create keyboard shortcuts for frequently used tools. Myself I have 3 screens and I'm in love with toolbars. I want a toolbar for everything... EVERYTHING!

@box said: I believe it is related to how the faces are created and their orientation to the global axis. If you redraw the line you are erasing from the other direction you will get the other texture. I just tried... You are right on target. Not too useful tough

I downloaded it a few days ago - had no problem with download or installation. It looks interesting and it might provide a clue as to where Trimble is going with SketchUp. I'm in the process of splitting a SU model into several separate models which I'll import, perhaps intentionally creating a clash or two to learn how it handles this. Since this a collaboration application and doesn't have editing tools, I wonder if it will work as a SU viewer.

Yes, it is entirely possible to create a Dynamic Component that will behave as you describe.
