Kuesel, It can also be so big because there are no components used for repeating geometry. If you can change some such geometry into components (and use those as multiple instances) it can considerable decrease your file size. Unfortunately this is again a long and manual process. However 17 mb sounds pretty big. The limit in the 3D Warehouse (if you want to export it to GE via that) is 10 mb. Sure you can export the "pure" kmz file, too but consider the render time in GE, too. This would be an extremely slow model.

Group your walls then go into edit of that group. Create one rafter and make it a group. While still in edit of the wall component intersect with the rafter. If you notice at the birdsmouth you can delete the section of the BM setting on the top plate.

Friends, It is the same hard to find a rough number of models on the 3d warehouse?, or the amount of increment?, I think that can help too, If I show how this is growing, will be easier to convince them. Regards.

Beautiful work Sean! Just out of interest, if you often make working SU models, have you tried using the SketchyPhysics beta plugin? Check out the SketchyPhysics forum below to see what it's capable of. You'll need to install the plugin in to view the models in action, but it's one of the most pretty impressive (and free) SU plugins IMHO. http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewforum.php?f=61

My apologies for the confusion. I was referring to export from SketchUp. For import into SketchUp, there's nothing you can do to create smoother curves on import. If the curves are recognized by SketchUp as arcs or circles, you can edit the number of sides in Entity Info. Otherwise you would need to redraw the curves with more segments. If the curve is non-circular I would probably use Catmull Splines from Fredo6's Bezier Spline extension to redraw them. Since .dwg files import as components, I would draw the curve outside the component using the original as a guide and then replace the original with the new one.

Thanks Todd/Gaieus, Some good info in there. The Chris Fulmer tutorials are very well explained. I'll have to look into that section more. Cheers, Alan. P: ACZero

Now, that's cool, Varty! I'm glad that you succeeded. As you can see, there are always some tricks when you get stumped at some (seemingly impossible) point. When you already have some experience, patience and imagination, you can always overcome these problems.

http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=723 this could help you... there is a part 2 as well and I'm working on part 3. my local reproduction shop Springfield Blue Print sends me .tiff files those can be dropped directly into SU. although I find it quicker to import into Autocad and trace there, it's more fun in SU. good luck if you need anything let us know.

@gaieus said: To your material problem I'd suggest not to eyedropper/copy the material of a section plane (I dodn't see the reason...) This mostly happens in the aforementioned scenario when I'm trying to pick the texture of a floor surface (not the section plane) while the camera is hovering above the section plane (which in turn is horizontally between the floor and the camera). It seems it all boils down to me having to stop being so awfully lazy and managing to make the few extra clicks to adjust the planes when needed, thanks for helping P: Tapsa_Kn
