I have a wall face w/ window and door components and all seems fine. However, when I apply a material, in this case brick, there's one section that doesn't hatch, or fill, or whatever SU refers to. There's an odd triangle that just goes empty.

RSW, we would really need the skippy for this (guess there is something messed uo) or at least some screenshots.

          Thanks

Please look at the attached skippy. If you go to the inside of the building and look at the components from the inside, some of them have faces on the inside, others do not. I don't understand how that happened.

Also, if you place brick on the face of the building as it is now, there will be sections that don't fill and just become voids. I'm at a loss and do appreciate your help. I guess there's something I'm doing incorrectly and would love guidance on starting .skp files correctly.

            RSW,

            Two things:

            1. I corrected your window component (I guess you had the problems with the ones on the "second floor"). I re-drew one outer edge at where the face was missing to "heal" the whole then selected all (within the component) and intersected with selected.
This will cut the opening edges into the bigger face (provided they are coplanar but fortunately they were).
              Repainted and everything.

            2. Always make your models with only the white (front) faces showing outside. If there are blue (back) faces shown, when selecting all geometry in the objects and applying the paint bucket tool, the back faces won't paint (you will need to paint them one by one).
If they are in a group/component however, they will receive the material.
This is the case with your building; though not many but there are some faces reversed (use the right click > reverse faces on them).
This is also important because these faces won't render the materials well in GE (and in several rendering programs).

            Two further notes:

3( Groups/components can be painted two ways: either you edit them and apply the materials from inside their context OR you paint them as a whole.
In the first case you cannot paint them from outside any more but in the second case you can.
You can use this "trick" to paint the glass in your window components from inside (editing them) and paint the whole component when it's closed. Now you can re-paint the component any time - the glass will remain transparent.
Note that this only paints one instance of a component while editing it will affect all.

            1. On the roof there is a piece missing from your model (the side of the top roof).

Have fun (and here's the skippy - I hope you don't mind I uploaded it into the warehouse to save space here - if you wish I can remove it after you downloaded it).

RWS, the problem with the interior of the components is within your component definitions...one just needed the inside of the glass painted "glass", the other was missing the backside face of the window system (also, that one has a glitch in one of the lites: you'll have to stretch it out and intersect with the backside face). Also, you should move the component axis' so they cut inside the wall rather than outside.

I didn't see any problem with the building walls...is this the same model as described above? (You might want to consider changing your default material colors so you can see the difference in the shade...easier on the eyes over the long run.

                Ok, here's what I did...

I just downloaded the file that Gaius completed for me and worked in it all day yesterday. Turns out I was working on a temp file and it purged when I shut down. Needless to say, I had to start over again from the beginning.

                Frustrated, but hanging in there...
