Eric Sorry I didnt get back to you on the solid, but it worked but not the way I wanted it to. I think something like even a hatch of some sort would be ok, but I dont know how to do it.

Well, I learned my something new for the day. Guess I can take the rest of the day off. I had been saving woodgrain materials in both orientations when I imported them so that I could have the grain running right. Now I've found out I can just spin em around after they've been painted on.

Anssi is absolutely correct. You'll see mention of this in the SketchUp Release Notes as well. ...there's a good reason to read them right there! Here's a link: http://sketchup.google.com/gsu6/relnotes.html Cheers, CraigD

Hi jplum, welcome to the forums here. For your specific search for a good laptop, ghave a look at our "Hardware forum" here: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewforum.php?f=72 Plenty of thought have been shared there (this - finding a good computer for SU - seems to be the major issue for all the people). Your SU is the latest (just a week "old") release for sure so you need not worry about that. Cheers

If you want to "regain" either a softened of a hidden line, go to View > Hidden geometry and go through the lines you want to unhide/unsoften with the Ctrl+Shift+Eraser tool. CTL+Shift+eraser will unsoften a line, but it will NOT unhide a hidden line. For that you need to select and "unhide". Pity there is no key combo just to unhide a line..

Hi folks. Dont forget that one of SU strength is the possibility of orbiting, zooming, panning, changing scene while in the middle of an operation like drawing, scaling, moving, rotating, etc. Try the following: 1 - With the standard Iso view, start a rectangle by clicking to set the first corner. The rectangle will have a tendency to be drawn on the horizontal plane (red-green axis). 2 - While still in the drawing process, orbit so the red-blue plane is mostly facing you. 3 - Complete the rectangle. You will see that it is now drawn on the vertical red-blue plane. Just ideas.

There is no publishable date for Google SketchUp Pro 7. The latest and greatest maintenance release for SketchUp 6.0 just came out, so that's the one to get. Mac - SketchUp Pro version 6.0.1145 Win - SketchUp Pro version 6.0.1099 Get it while it's hot! Cheers, CraigD

You can also set up the hide command with a shortcut. I use "H". Select the lines you want hidden and hit H. You can add/modify your shortcuts in: Window / Preferences. Select the Shortcuts category then scroll down to Edit/Hide.

I can ask Clipi and Tomasz what they think. Perhaps Giannis will take a peek, it would be good to get confirmation. I've only used KT since last October. It doesn't take long to become proficient, but then I had several years rendering experience before that (like 10yrs) and I took to KT like a duck in gold water. Try HDR lighting, it's instantaneous, and you'll like it. Check my latest WIP on the KT forum. to see a building with HDR lighting on it. Then I just mask render in the background (there's a tut. for d/l on the KT home page download sections if you don't know how this is done.) keep up the great work!

Marc, You could use different Materials for each respective color entity (trim, sofit, etc.). So for example, let's say you start with the Material "Color_000" (that's just a standard white). Create a new material from it (see attached) and name it descriptively (i.e. trim). Create a new material like this for each item and name them descriptively. Now when you've completed your model and applied materials to the appropriate faces, you can just go back to your materials palette and make changes to the desired parts. As far as using groups and components, I would recommend putting all of your trim into a group so it's easy to select just the trim if you want to (open the group and "select all"). That way, applying materials will be easy too. [image: create_material.gif]

Hi Executor, hi folks. I suggest that you learn the native tools of SU before using Plugins. See this SU file for ideas. Mirroring object skewed with all axes.skp

Carlo, I did download your model and saw that "fortunately" (though so to speak not too "wisely") you did not create any more complex geometry from your building so what Tom was suggesting, seems to work: select (with a left to right drawn selection box) everything that is above your first floor windows (i.e. ceiling between the 2 floors and all above) Click anywhere in your model with the move tool Before starting to actually move, hit the up arrow (to lock your move in the blue axis) start moving but before clicking again, type the exact amount you want to move and hit enter. repeat the whole thing with the roof and the top ceiling selected in a second run. You still may need to "reposition" your windows a little bit on the vertical (blue) axis to fit to the "new design".
