Thanks for the replies. I think I will continue with my current setup. I don't think I can add more memory- the slots are full/unless I upgrade Motherboard. I may try to upgrade to a dedicated video card...I have 2 free PCI slots. Thanks again you two.

nothing beats podium - sorry, its true. I'm sure there are more "advanced" tools, but for people looking of a get-to-the-point easy to learn program, podium is good.

Glad you can fix the problems. Also looking forward to seeing the final result. Make sure to register at the KT Forums and start sharing your WIP for advices in the WIP Gallery section (the guys are very helpful there) provided you can share the project before finishing it.

Aha, then it means that those models are already on the constant 3D Layer in GE! I didn't even know they were changing the models... What changes are there anyway? There is an isue that images (photos) lose quality after the upload but other than that I now about nothing else. Maybe ask Craig - for a while he used to be a quality controller (or what) of uploaded material and he could be of more help maybe.

No, This is what I'm getting at... I had to revise a part of the master plan and in doing so lost some faces i.e. the parking lot and roads. When using makefaces it closed faces but made coplanar faces in some areas. I'm finding myself tracing the thing all over again which works sometimes but not all_trial and error. Jean, I think this capabilty for the Circle tool is one that would be happily received. I think this is a great idea. I don't see why the existing circle tool couldn't incorporate this functionality (perhaps by holding the Alt key while drawing on an edge). I bet it is possible to do with a Ruby script right now (see some of the features in the new Joint-Push-Pull script for interactively setting the "Prileged Plane"). TIG's Pipe-along-path.rb already puts adds a circle tangential to the endpoint of a path.

I wonder if my problem started after I applied texture to the model. Because without textures the file was around 1-2MB. (I used lots of components.) And I've ensured that every component is clean and free of unneeded geometry. And so far I've only used one component that I didn't make myself and that was a tree from the SU download area. However, with the textures the model is now up to 14MB. I model without the textures visible, but maybe they are still causing trouble... Problem is that I can't just copy my model into a new file because I'm using V-Ray and all the materals will be lost if I do so...

The problem is that doesn't work well with my workflow. I'm using V-Ray for SU and when you import components it won't import the V-Ray materials. If I get time over the weekend I'll see if I can learn enough Ruby to make a script for this.

The ideal grid: it can be scaled by a hotkey which doubles in size it is infinite (no need to set distance points) it isn't an actual object in the Outliner it has line weighting (ie. every 4th or 8th line is darker/heavier) it adjusts its visual screen draw to prevent moiré patterns if in an orthogonal view, it covers the background (ie. front, top, right) it is tied into the snap distance and unit of measurement Thoughts?

@unknownuser said: Although this may seem too simple...I have run accross a few new SU users who are not aware how to set up their mouse to use the scroll wheel. The ability to zoom and orbit with the wheel makes navigating very quick and intuitive. I'm on a Mac now and used to use a PC. On the PC I had the scroll wheel set to zoom and orbit but on the Mac it doesn't seem possible. Care to enlighten me?

@dan rathbun said: What are your goals concerning the cost per seat ? Will it require a SketchUp Pro edition ?? Will there be a more than one edition (ie, Novice, Pro, etc.) Are you planning to incorporate any extensibility that would allow 3rd party extensions to your BIM system ? Right now, we don;t have a set price, but we WILL have multiple levels of functionality, though, that is not set, either. As of now, we don;t plan on making anything dependent on PRO, though I can see where having Layout would be ideal for this sort of work. As of now, we are considering interfacing via a generic IFC format, but nothing is carved in stone. @brewsky said: Hi Aaron! I'm also working on a BIM plugin for sketchup, check out: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=34007 I just added a tutorial to highlight it's functionality! Development could be much more effective when all sketchup-BIM-developers are working together. I'm interested in your answer to Dan's question, is your goal a free(open source?) tool? If so, would you be interested in joining forces? And if not so, maybe together we could make some "BIM-guidelines", so a wall in one plugin can be recognized as a wall in another plugin... Maybe even share IFC-import/export... Cheers! Jan I have seen your work in the past and I have to say it is quite impressive! As much as several of us enjoy the spirit of open source, we are being payed by a company who will want a return on investment, so it will be secured software that will be sold. As for the "BIM-guidelines", we are using the IFC standards, right now. They are not complete and, I feel, will change in the future, but it is a start, and it is already gaining acceptance and following. Again, thank you for your input and comments, we are very excited about this product and are looking forward to as much input as we can get from the members of SketchUcation! Thanks, Aaron

I hadn't noticed before, but it seems to be true. The reason seems to be in the way the offset function works. Arcs are just open curves with all the segments the same length, and with all the vertices being on the same arc. When you offset it, this no longer applies. The offset command makes the end segments relatively shorter, and a line drawn between the endpoint of the original and offsetted curve is at 90 degrees to the first segments, and does not cross the centerpont of the original arc. It is more noticeable if you make an arc of very few segments. Anssi
