@danieldaniel73 said: Hi BillW... Have you found any solution on the parent!parent! issue? I need to call a custom attribute from the toplevel component to apply on my sub-sub- component. Hello Daniel, Currently, you are only allowed to reference attributes in the parent or in children. If you need a custom attribute of a grandparent to drive a formula inside a grandchild, you have to do it with two formulas instead of one. Inside the grandparent: CustomWidth = 10 Inside the parent: InheritedWidth = parent!CustomWidth Inside the child: MyWidth = parent!InheritedWidth The idea is for each component to live in its own little world, and have the list of what's configurable be dependent on the parent it's inside of. For example, if you were designing a set of cabinets, you may have a subcomp called "Drawer" that has 10 configurable options on it. But as soon as you nest that inside of a "Cabinet", you may choose to only create pulldowns for 3 of those (by wiring the drawer attributes to be driven by the cabinet's). At least, that's the vision. There are certainly ways that we can think of to make all of this easier, so please keep the feedback coming!

The approach Anssi explained is how most of us deal with the linework. Its nice to have very thin black lines, but not the the massively thick ones. So exporting extra large and then downsizing in Photoshop is a great tip. It makes for a much crisper export image. Hope your're getting somewhere on this, the model looks good. Chris

Yes, even though I update the style to have no textures or transparency SU still turns them on. ECS might close the Material Window, but it's still annoying that it pops up in the first place. Wether I have to use the mouse or keyboard to close it, it's an extra step I'd like to skip.

I have worked for many years in the simulation industry and worked with MultiGen Creator. This 3D modeling tool had a very nice option called “Isolate select”. If you are working on a complex model or scenery and having difficulty with speed or parts that are blocking your view when going around it than this option is very useful. Just select the part you need to work on and type “I” and a new workspace opens, it is also possible to switch between the two workspaces. Henri

maxell, as far as your graphics problems go, you might want to check the settings on your computer; just because it is new doesn't mean it was set up correctly at the factory. A few years ago I got a new computer at work, with a top notch NVidia card, but SU worked worse than on my old computer (same graphics issues) - I had to go through the NVidia control panel and reset a lot of settings, and now no probs.

RHD, I'm not familiar with the Mac UI but on PC, in the Preferences dialog (which you can activate from the Sketchup menu on the Mac AFAIK), the first tab is "Applications" where I need to identify the image editor I want to use for this "interactive, on-the-fly" image editing. Have you set that in your SU?

Thanks. I forgot to mention, I put a better version of it in the Scripting forum (Plugin - Surface Plotter). Among other things it fills in the surfaces bounded by the lines. I am also working on a plugin that can do parametric surfaces (like spheres, spirals, etc.)

Thanks Scott. That's pretty much what I did with the orange one, which works just fine. They grey one, on the other hand gets squashed flat if you force a redraw after animating. the barrier

Blouboy, Have about the same hardware you have(PowerBook G4, 17inch, 1,67Mhz, 1,5 GB memory, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphic card, Mac OSX 10.4.11, SU hardware acceleration and fast feedback on) and of course SU 7 installed. I have tried all kind of different things, using the right mousebutton, but nothing abnormal. I cann't repeat your screenflashing/blinking at all. I am sorry I cann't help you. The only thing I can say is that it isn't a general Mac problem. I hope you find a solution. If so please keep us informed, others might encounter the same behaviour.

Chris, I understand all that, that is not the issue. I could just download the file and then open it, which is what I do if I think I'm going to want to keep the file. In fact, I have my browsers download to a folder of my own choosing, not the temp folder under my profile. My issue is having to close that worthless dialog that opens. The scenario is usually that I'm reading this forum on one monitor and want to open an attached SU file on the other monitor to look at what the problem, example, etc. is. I click on the attachment and elect to open it with SU. I continue to read while waiting for the file to download and SU to open. After a while, I realize that SU has not opened because it is still waiting for me to close that dialog. SU already tells me that the file is read-only in the title bar of the SU window, why require me to verify that the file is read-only before it will open the file? I realize that this trivial, but it is one of those trivial non-user-friendly nuisances that bug me.

Generally, if your block has parallel sides you can just use to push a hole through the geometry. However, if the sides arent parallel youd have to extrude the shape you want to cut through the slab then move it in to position, select the whole thing->right click->intersect with selected. As you said, all this needs to happen with ungrouped geometry (or geometry all in the same group) for it to work. Itd be useful if you could post a model showing your problem btw, hard to say exactly what the problem is without an example.
