Yup, that's what one of my co-workers came up with. You wouldn't have to do a clipping mask, just arrange one model (or whatever you want to mask) behind another model that's the square with the circle intersected. Not a bad solution at all - I just like circles (and the freehand tool, being able to move points) better in LayOut 2.0.

    There are always options...

Nothing much to add to a great suggestion, but maybe put different colors on different layers so you could easily hide/show them.

In the reference dialogue box it says reference status embedded.

Currently, if you copy a model from one LayOut project and paste it into another LayOut project , the link to the 3D model is not preserved even though the model path displayed in the References area is correct. I dont know if this is what you did but, if so, this may be the reason you see the status as "Embedded". To establish the link, select "Unlink" and then "Relink".

    I hope this helps

    Red,

As for the red arrows on text....try rt click....size to fit........to lose the red arrows!

    RE: Lines Missing.
I am assuming you are exporting to .pdf @ Output Quality = HIGH.

I have had "losses" of sorts using high quality setting.......and now always export to .pdf Output Quality = MEDIUM......with good & consistent results.

    Alternately:
You may also want to experiment with the raster/vector/hybrid settings to see if these change your results.

    Best,
    C

    EDIT:
As for the text in SU...Vs...text in LO......I would say you need to experiment some with the text height vs points in SU.

I prefer using the font heightset somwhere between 3" & 6" depending on the drawing scale set in LO........again something to experiment with.

    David, you might try this:

In SU, make scenes for each floor level. (let's call them scenes 1 through 3 for floors 1 through3.) Put the floor plans on separate layers. Leave the camera in the same spot for each scene just change the layer that is visible.

Save the SU model and then send to Layout. Do what you need to to get the scale correct for Scene 1. Then copy the view and paste it. If you paste it on another page, it'll end up in the same position as the first one. Then change the the copy to Scene 2. Repeat for Scene 3. Everything should be aligned then.

I'm also wondering about this. When printing to .pdf is there a way to print as vector file rather thank dots?

You have to select Hybrid or Vector rendering on each SU model. Anything in LO that's
Vector based is also exported as vector to pdf.

sketchupjockey - send me the file in a PM, or I can try to talk you through trying to recover the file. LayOut files are zipped so unzip the file and look inside the pages/ directory. How many pagexxx.xml files are there? That's how many pages actually got zipped up in the file? Are you saving to a file server or was all work local?

    Thanks for the insights.
    Nice trick,
I was hoping that there was a way that was not too obvious but part of the program.
And this works too, I will give it a try.
Maybe this can be on the wish list, as it is just how the model works when you "see it" in the "fade rest of model" within model info.

Thanks for the tip on the circle too, I did figure that out.
One quick question, NICE model, do you do architectural drawings within SU? or do you just use it for modeling purposes and then go to a 2d drafting program. I am envisioning a "working drawing" set of prints via SU and LO. I feel it is possible, any perspectives, examples or experiences would be most appreciated.

I hope you might have figured out the problem since it's been a long time I'm answering, I don't what the issue is, but there is a solution available, you can go to "Print tab - print as a file - choose the path - Print" you'll get the PDF file.

    Thank You.

Maybe I have only tested this with fairly simple models so far but I haven't even noticed such a significant slowdown. Certainly I should get into more testing...
