It seems that inside groups isn't possible to do operations with the Joint and Split tool. If I double click to enter inside a group of entities and than chose the Split or Joint commands they don't allow me to work anymore inside.
      Am I missing somthing?

      Another question is:
I have a shape filled with a hole inside, is it possible to see through the hole, the elements that are lying beneath?

      Thanx

        Hi,
If you have a shape filled with a hole inside, it seem you can't see through the hole. πŸ˜‰

        sketchup is great.

          1. Split / Join in groups: yup, known issue. I also filed a bug to request inferencing be turned off, so that you don't get the impression that they should work. Workaround is to ungroup, do your split / join actions, then regroup.

          2. Shape with hole: like this?

Here's what the LayOut document contains...

Yours truly, and with deepest thoughts of gratitude and ever-growing respect and love with a mild dose of humor and sarcasm,

That's exactly what I was looking for.
              How did you do that?
              Wonderful!
              Thanx a lot

Try this, and I'll clarify if necessary.

Hmmm....That's interesting. I would be nice to have an Intersect function so you could just delete the face in the center.

                    Thank you for showing that.

                      bjansen,

Good stuff....thanks for the detailed explanation.

I would only add that if you would like to still show a stroke @ inner and outer shapes.

Before splitting shapes, select....shift....both shapes and copy to clipboard.
After splitting and deselecting stroke per your tutorial for the combined shape, paste initial shapes from clipboard and deselect fill from these shapes, then group the lot.
If necessary arrange order front to back etc.

                      Best,

Yea, the only issue with grouping is you can't use a group as a clipping mask. So either method (intersection, use group as clipping mask) I'd take as a feature request to accomplish the same thing. Personally, I want to make those postcards with the name of your state in big stencil block letters, and put nature images in the background clipped by the letters, ya know... πŸ˜‰

Could you make the text in some other app--even SketchUp--and then make a PNG with transparency and use it as the clipping mask?

Yup, that's what one of my co-workers came up with. You wouldn't have to do a clipping mask, just arrange one model (or whatever you want to mask) behind another model that's the square with the circle intersected. Not a bad solution at all - I just like circles (and the freehand tool, being able to move points) better in LayOut 2.0.

                            There are always options...
