BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

I get what you mean but, Bringing the mesh into blender (via obj) everything loads in place, as it does in Poser, daz studio, wings, silo.... Etc Su is the only one that seems to require manual placement of every imported mesh item.

You're spot on with what you say. Middle of the floor, not a problem. Free standing stoves are ideal. The ideal solution would be a feature where I can apply a material to the wall around the stove (my mask) and for Sketchup to ignore everything behind it. I'm assuming this isn't something that could be achieved via a plugin? It might be easier to go back to Unity and see what I can do there. Thank you all for your suggestions. Kindest regards, Reagan.

oh boy.... i was searching "3 point" NOT "3pt" thanks for taking the time to compensate for my, eh..lack of sleep I installed Pixero's 3pt rectangle and error is gone. STILL i have to wonder if it wasn't installed, why was i getting the error in the first place? I used LAUNCHER to search installed plugins within sketchup also using all sorts of relevant keywords but nothing had come up. Oh well. Solved for now. Thanks!! Bob

Pretty cool idea. Slapped together a quick example.... The drawings are 24" x 36". Drew a 4" grid across the sheet. Used FredoScale > Radial Bend to start with and added more "crinkles" with Vertex tools. You can go as crazy as you'd like with this part. Imported a couple of generic plan images I had on file. Used ThruPaint to apply the images to the sheets. Brought in the first house model I came to and scaled it down to suit. Turned on shadows and there you have it. Edit - I have no life .... added a third sheet with more curl to the end. Be sure to check out Box's tutorials. [image: mL5J_archicard.jpg] [image: e5hp_archicard2.jpg]

The coloration of the chair is probably setup as a refractive material in the Max file. This will not come into SketchUp, so the above texture is a clever trick.

This issue happens can you import CAD files and drape them. It's always been a bug and it lingers still. I would recommend using EdgeTools and clean up any little bits and shards in your CAD file. Then you can try also running it on your topo after draping. This doesnt always work but it gets a good amount of unclean cuts. You can also bet that arcs tend to have this issue when draping. To find the culprit, I turn on hidden and start painting my areas, you will eventually find where the bleeder is and fix the teeny-tiny edge that did not cut cleanly. Also try Fredo's Edge Inspector.

For years I have requested a way to have saved work spaces in SketchUp. This could even include customized Menu items, that way you have categorized your plugins. Send Trimble an email and make this a priority for them!

Glad you got it sorted. @jgillick said: The geometry was hidden in another layer. The penny drops! Another good example of why the rule about leaving Layer 0 as the active layer and keeping all geometry on Layer 0 should be followed. Bookmarked for the next time someone isn't convinced from reading the help articles on layer usage in SketchUp.

@box said: There can be various reasons for slow performance, from inefficient workflow to some flaw in the computer settings. Without seeing an example of your work we can only guess. A large file size doesn't always mean slow, I was working on a 415mb file only yesterday on a very low end laptop without any stutter. And I can create a 100kb file that will bring the best PC to it's knees. A model to look at would help us to understand if it is your workflow or your system that would benefit from some tweaking. Here's the model that I'm working on. Let me know if I can optimize it any more.

@pbacot said: I'm assuming you are doing 2d graphic export. You'll have to unsoften all the visible edges for the export of the view. Turn on "View/ hidden geometry". Use the soften/smooth edges dialog. Turn the slider down all the way. This worked!!! Thank you so much...

[quote="Deivis1992"] Do you always do that with more difficult shapes? It really depends on the final use of the model and how much detail I want. Sometimes just having the approximate dimensions and "eyeballing is fine".

Hi All - this course done by Eric Sargeant could be interesting in the context discussed here - it is worth seeing and reading in any case https://learn.sketchup.com/track/sketchup-landscape-site-design
