Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Had you included your OS etc in your User-Profile you might have got a MC user's response... Perhaps it's an issue with v2013 MAC exporter and text ? Can I suggest you get in touch directly with SketchUp's support side - as a Pro user you should get an answer - even if it's only, "It's a known bug on MACs, we are working on it..."

Yes group the retaining wall entities. You might use "Tools on Surface" plugin to draw your profile on the group, but not necessary. The group should not affect the SB from contours process. I like to make curves of the contours with recurve rb. The process will also assure you've got a continuous set of segments for each contour. You can also use simplify curve routines (Fredo Tools?). But definitely look at Toposhaper that resolves some these requirements. There should definitely only be the single contour set, not a flat surface or second set below. To raise the contours from a flat set, there are various methods, You might make a vertical array of edges or guides to snap to your intervals. I think the push-pull method is more trouble. Look for Daniel Tal's 2008 lecture video too. You will see more on SB work. https://sites.google.com/site/3dbasecamp2008/

Have you uploaded the STL to cloud.netfabb.com? Link also in my first post. If that doesn't work, can you upload the troublesome part here or PM it to me? So far I've not had a model that wouldn't work.

That was my idea Gaieus... However when I unhide all I'll run into issues. I think I'll need to put the guide inside of a group and then hide the guide inside the group. that should leave it there. Then of course I was a little worried that i would do something to all my models I might come to regret later for unknown reasons.

You have to change the render type to Vector in LayOut. Apparently you're not doing that.

In Pro when you Export a 3d DXF or DWG there is an options button on the dialog. This opens an options dialog in which you can specify what will be included in the exported data. One item is 'Construction Geometry' [aka Guide-lines and Guide-points] by default I think this is unchecked... Check it and they export as XLines/Rays and Points in the CAD version...

ahh... now i see that you can produce a boundary as region using the "edit hatch" command - then you will get one object with holes that gets imported as one group in sketchup.

@mike lucey said: But again we are not captive in any way as the door is wide open to walk through if the desire is there. Is not just that simple... All of sketchUp users had some strong reasons to go with SketchUp in the first place. And most of us did this because SU is DIFFERENT, and by different I say easy to learn, easy to use, not cluttered ... so you can do your thing fast and easy, with no need of hundreds of toolbars, scrolling menus, buttons, extensive learning... and why not, a very nice interface... unconventional icons (why so serious?). And all this encouraged a "think out of the box" community... original people turned to it, not that generation of AutoCAD users that were so stiff. And also... neither the "3SD users", who are so "fancy and sophisticated" (ok, now I was mean, but I'm sure you understand my point). So, if SU will cease to be what it has been, I'm starting to think where it will go? Ok, you are saying that if I won't like it, I am free to go... And probably I will... to SU8 again . But that's not the point here. The point is that WE ARE A STRONG COMMUNITY and despite the fact that Trimble bought Sketchup, Sketchup is still ours. Without us, the users, Trimble may very well whash their hair with SU... so to speak. So, first of all, Trimble shall listen of what users want/need. Because, believe or not, the users know best (because they are using it). All we can hope is that Trimble will eventually understand this and will go in the right direction.

@jim said: I could make a little plugin that uses VisualBasic Script to open the Save As dialog and select version 7. It would at least take some of the tedium out of it. (I'm already testing it. Windows-only, I'm afraid.) Is this possible with 2013? I'm getting a 2013 version, but my co workers use v.8.0 pro. I'm afraid they won't be able to open it. I hope the developers will consider this option.. like in AutoCAD, you can set what default version to save as.

[quote="Dave R"]Paul, this isn't a bug with SketchUp 2013 so I moved it into SketchUp Discussions. Thanks for that Dave. Just back from dodging raindrops in the New Forest. I will sort this out, many thanks for your response. Best regards. Paul

@swingman said: Besides SpaceNavigator being a no show, 2013 Pro will neither print, nor export textures on my Win7 laptop. All I get is line drawings. I may be missing a simple configuration, but have both Pro 8 and Pro 2013 installed and can find no difference in configuration between the two ... Pro 8 continues to perform/print/export as it always has. What am I missing? Problem identified, but not solved. It is an OpenGL problem/BUG with SketchUp2013 Pro. Turn off "Hardware Acceleration" in Preferences in 2013Pro and the behavior, as described above, becomes normal; IOW, with Hardware Acceleration OFF, both printing and export work with regard to visibility of materials, colors and textures contained in the model. Once again, I have two installations of SketchUp, Pro8 and 2013 Pro on the same machine. Pro8 does NOT exhibit this OpenGL problem/bug/behavior on the same machine. I can visualize a few reasons for this (dual installation with conflicting registry info for starters; a driver issue, or is it just a BUG in 2013's implementaion??) Whatever the reason, SketchUp 2013 is a total bust for me thus far. Apparently, it is time to test the efficacy of Trimble's $95 support scheme. OS: Win 7 64-bit Dell XPS 15 Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M (driver 9.18.13.697 10/2/12) Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks! Did fill out a bug report on Trimble's site link in the Bug report sticky on this forum. Edit: Updated to nVidia's latest driver, to no avail.

I haven't written something like that. So far I only take care and add switches for the differences ( String.[], methods["method_name"] || methods[:method_name], …)

Thanks, I've looked at Shadow Projector briefly but I don' think it creates a polygon of the shadow area. I need to select this to fill it with an AutoCAD hatch or solid fill with grey. When I export from Adobe Illustrator as a dxf I can easily select this in AutoCAD and hatch it. It's just a rather cumbersome process and I don't have Adobe Illustrator on my home PC.
