Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

@gaieus said: At least we only have "simple" rain here. So much about global warming. No, Gaieus Here in the north it goes: Higher temperatures in the Arctic> more evaporation, more winds> more rain As to importing DWG files, a valid file should import OK, but SU ignores many object types, especially those created by AEC applications like AutoCad Architecture. Those should be "Exported to AutoCad" prior to sending you the file. Cleaning the file of unnecessary geometry makes it import faster, but should otherwise not be necessary. There seems to be some limit to file size, though, I have read somewhere that at somewhere bigger than 10 Mb the importer begins to choke. Note too that the new AutoCad 2010 version that came out this spring has a new file format that is not yet readable by SU. So if the person who is sending you files uses that, they should save the file in the 2007 format or older. An intermittent problem with the same file might indicate some other problem, like a problem with a removable disk/memory stick or a network glitch, if the file resides on a server. Anssi

Have look at Walkabout 3D or Simmetry 3D. They both have full working trial versions.

...so to add to Jim's post, something must have gone wrong. You should definitelybe able to open a version 6 file in SU 7. In fact, we do that all the time here with files uploaded by members still using SU 6 (or even 5).

Sorry to hear that. Do you have a screen shot of an area of your curtain walls so we can share in your pain.

this is definitely quite the list.. i might just have to utilize it too, if no one minds. and for the record, i too like modelling from plans/elevations...not sure why, but it can be 'fun'... its probably a good chunk of my workload, too.

Is this being rendered? Is there any particular reason you want to do this w/ geometry vs. textures? With pits and hairline cracks I can't see not using a texture. If it's being rendered a decent bump map will help you there. If you really want to get fancy or if you want to show some more depth from larger cracks and deformation then you're probably looking at more of a displacement map situation. -Brodie

Yeah, it definitely seems to be a (maybe just "almost") coplanar z-fighting issue. Do those lamp shades have "thickness"? Or are they just single faced? (painting on the front and back faces - even if you paint different materials on them - shouldn't cause this problem). Such a z-fighting can occur with even not entirely coplanar but very close faces like EscapeArtist says. It happens when the "physical" distance of two faces - viewing from far enough - is already foreshortened enough to be less than 1 pixel on screen; the limit OpanGL can display. In your 2D export that distance must be very very small however (if that's the case) since it's not a very far away shot OR I'd still suggest there are exactly coplanar faces there.

Thanks for the posts and feedback. Looking around other forums and posts and yes I guess its not doable in SU and has to be hand rendered externally. I wonder how difficult it would be to add to the software. If you can change the style on everything in one file should it not be easy for the software to style a individual component and have different components with different styles within one file? Would certain save a lot of time. Thanks

@aidus said: Well now you need to place complex tree in skp format directly in your project. I thin pavol is working on stuf which allows us to add mxm file as proxy not putting complex tree in main model. With this we can simply use very realistic trees like evermotion trees. I'd say now they will try and save this and all the bug fixes till version 2 of maxwell! I hope though they will consider fixing the bugs in studio and release a fully working version of 1.? so that those restrained by the current economic climate are forced to buy V2 to gain the fixes!

Here's a fixed version. Draped it onto a surface to make sure it was flat. The main things wrong were the parallel lines didn't often meet the faceted curve - fixed by copying a long line at the centres drawn multiple times, overlaying existing lines and auto-cutting curve's edges, then deleting unwanted bits (v7 auto cuts intersecting edges). A few unconnected vertices and strange overlaps didn't help. Make Faces was not needed that much once that was fixed... There are still a few messy bits around the circular shape - suggest you might redraw that over the top [in a group], then erase the unwanted mess and then explode group to insert the good circle etc ? Note this version is stripped down - no layers, materials etc... 680_LagoonaTilePattern[fixed].skp
