Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

@unknownuser said: Forgive me ..I am not a Mac user...I should probably just shut up but... In our office we just access the library we need on the company shared drive directly through the component/material browser/dialogue....nothing special to do at all. We pick up materials and create our own folders for materials where ever. ....see I told you I should shut up!! Thanks for your response - no need to shut up! You would think that the method you describe would work on a Mac, but, unfortunately, it does not. For some reason, the Mac version of the Sketchup material palette/browser does not allow you to choose the destination of newly created the folders, and won't allow you to browse for external material sources. It IS possible with the Mac version to create shared Component Libraries. Why? I don't know. Again, Thanks anyway. Anyone else have ideas about this? Doug

Coolapp. And yeah, what I'm actually planning to do is a kind of interactive walkthrough in my city in its different, historic ages. I've also been thinking about panoramas (rather than "real" 3D walkthrough) because they sem to be streaming better on the internet.

Your right in thinking you cant use IES profiles in podium or SU, several of the other renderers can, though.

If it's an office computer, make sure that SU is allowed to communicate with the Internet (have a check at the firewall settings for instance). Network administrators tend to limit everything as much as possible.

When I first came across plugins for SU I looked over the lists of plugins and their description. If the description of what they did appeared to fit my workflow I'd try them out. It's really subjective which plugins will fit you as it depends on your own usage of Sketchup.

With SU 6 there were some glitches with the export (see some details below) so first of all I'd suggest to upgrade to SU 7 (even if you only start with the free version). Otherwise make sure that the image extensions are all lower case (jpg instead of JPG) as well as there are no special characters (maybe even spaces) in the image names.

Kev There is always the tried and tested Photoshop method, extract an above view of only the road, take into PS and paint your road complete with lines and all then save as a texture and apply to road. [image: road1i.jpg] [image: road2a.jpg] [image: road3n.jpg] [image: road4h.jpg]

After executing these 8 steps i reinstalled the driver but it was not successful. After a second deinstallation/reinstallation it worked without problems.

No problem at all with several searches for me. Just guessing, but try closing down all your browser windows and then trying again. If that fails, try restarting your computer. Do you have a different browser installed? If so, try that.

Hi Mike, There is a plugin which would allow you to assign a (web) URL to any entity in SU - say a building that's turned into a group and such. You need to right click though and select the URL item in the context menu and then it will open a "normal" browser window, not a neat, chromeless one within SU. (see url_link.rb here) There were requests for this during development of SU 7 though because (theoretically) dynamic components could do this but AFAIK Google finally didn't include this feature for security reasons. I see you have SU 6 anyway so you couldn't go anywhere with DC's as it needs SU 7. I'm pretty sure however that with some modification of the URL plugin, it could be made nicer in SU because webdialogs have been implemented since that script was written (before SU 6). OR you do the whole presentation in Google Earth and add as much rich html content on click as you want.

Ditto for keeping XP. I run SU on Ubuntu and it just has too many glitches plus the plugin issues Coen mentions. Just not worth it, I'd stick with Blender for Linux.

I have not used it or seen it in action, but TBD has a script called time.rb that does this. http://www.smustard.com/script/TimeTrack Check it out, its only $5.00 USD Chris

@anglaret said: I suppose you are right, but a component does not brake an area betwen 2 rooms (to change floors coverings for example) You could leave a line to separate the rooms. That's how I would do it.
