I think you can adjust that if you go into Camera and adjust the colour filter. (Or what that property was called...)

@thomthom said: I think the current public build .89 isn't working well on OSX. But there is a beta that should be working. If you feel comfortable testing a beta I think you can still sign up. right. Ok thanks TT

.95 is not the latest. .96 is the latest beta build, .89 is the latest public build. ASGVis want beta testers (and you agreed to this when you signed up) to only post regarding beta builds in the ASGVis beta forum. This is so they can investigate the issues and correct them. For general info about VfSU and displacement check out the sticky thread at this forum section. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=322&t=28593 I'm closing this thread. PM me if you have any further questions.

It cover most of it but there are significant differences when it comes to exporting the animation and also the set up. The author talks about seting frame rates which i'm not you can do in SU. also the export for SU animation is different to that of Rhino.

@thomthom said: @chips_007 said: First question is, is it best to use rectangular lights as the ceiling lights? A rather generic question that I can't answer. It really depend on the model and scene. That is the case with most things in rendering. @chips_007 said: Second - if yes to above, why is it when I render I keep getting a faint black apprearance to all surfaces (when I've used rectangular for ceiling) and not a nice clean, lit up looking room.... To answer any of these questions properly it'd help if you posted some exampled of what you got. There are so many things that affect each other when it comes to rendering so the more info you got the better. Also - some basic info on your settings would help as well, are you using Irradiance Map + LightCache? Or some other combo? Physical camera or not? Ok, you are going to have to bare with me as im getting used to the terminology of it all. Right, Physical camera - No. Irr Map + L.Cache, not 100% sure what it is exactly, Irr map has standard settings, L.Cache I dont know. Should I use a physical camera? better renders with this? I have attached the image, it needs work but the point im trying to get across is shown so ignore the not so perfect look of it all, I just need to work out what settings do what, best combos etc etc, then I should be on my way....hopefully. @vidy said: hi there chips, im using the same version as you used, and yes i've been thru that issue before, but there is a way just like thom already told you to keep the setting saved. check here to make you more sure about it: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=4997.0 PS: im still stick with this version, coz, i think this version is still the simplest and stabil of the VFSU, just leak of IES feature, that is very significant.. goodluck Thanks Vidy. I had to download the new version last night just to see if I could actually do anything to my work. Installed it this morning and so far so good, and all my materials were still all there with the settings. V 1.05 really screwed up over the past few days, dam bugs. What makes this even more harder for me is that im currently trying to learn the software so when things like this happen, it really slows learning down but its all good now so onwards! Thanks guys!

Which of the materials are displaced? From your sample render I don't see any materials where it's obvious. Maybe bumpmap would do? Displacement is very memory intensive. And is you use it on large surfaces you force V-Ray to keep it in memory for longer - so you want to subdivide large displaced surfaces. But - you have a ~1million face model - it might very well be all the geometry that eat your memory.

Hmm....this was complicated! I have tested all kinds of values and I'm a little bit confused about the min and max rate? Will a min max value of -3 0 produce a better image, then with a min max value of -2 0 ? It looks like if I increase sample, the facade don't get crispy and sharp, correct? I still have problems with the spots.

@unknownuser said: ps. Please do not use all caps - they are terribly difficult to read. Also - you entered your V-Ray for SketchUp version in your profile where you should have entered your SketchUp version. We also have a "V-ray" subforum under the "Extensions..." forum so I am moving the topic there.

Rule #1: make sure that the geometry you want to displace is isolated into a group or component. If the displaced geometry is connected to any other geometry with a different material the displacement won't work. There are no reflection on the lamp shade, I forgot add some properties to this material. The picture is very sharp. And could be sharper . Thank you for C&C. [image: YkJB_1_A.png]

Copying importing components with V-Ray materials should bring the V-Ray materials along with VfSU 1.48.xx

Problem solved! I was able to select all and copy (ctrl-C) my model and paste it into a new drawing (all with vray plugin disabled.) The blended material problem is gone and the textures show up (and render) correctly when I open with Vray (1.48.89) enabled. Now, however, I can't find where I read this suggestion to copy and paste into a new file (I thought someone had posted here, but I guess I read it in a different thread. Whoever you are, many thanks!)

@mitcorb said: Up till reading this thread my understanding of index of refraction was that this is a factor of how light is bent while passing through a relatively dense transparent material and would not necessarily affect reflectance correct It's affecting how much reflection you'll see when you are parallel vs perpendicular to the reflective surface. The illustration was just to indicate that when you're standing on the side of a mirror/glass, the reflected image doesn't reflect what is perpendicular to the mirror/glass.
