I use su 7. It cant select correct faces when I put 'hardware acceleration' ON under window>preferences>openGL tab.
It tends to select face behind the current face. I tried solving it with the 'correct reverse picking driver bug' option but it dint help.
I cant do without hardware acceleration as the file are big.

      Any ideas.

      Hello,

First of all, sorry for my english... I'll try to make this post as understandable as possible..

I've just had a new laptop with Vista installed, but HP provided it with a downgrade for XP pro. So I formatted the laptop and installed XP. I installed sketchup 6 and had the same problem: couldn't select somme surface, and checking the "correct bug" option didn't change anything. Without hardware acceleration, i didn't have such problem... but that became too slow. I have an Ati radeon hd 3430 and intel core duo 2Ghz, with 2 Go RAM. I checked drivers and downloaded the last ones, but it changed anything.

I've looked in forums: this bug is known but no solution seem to exist (?) I really need sketchup for my studies so I've tried a last thing: I've formatted it again and reinstalled Vista. And with the same drivers (and same computer, and same sketchup), it's working. I don't know exactly why... but maybe it can help resolving this problem! I suppose Vista is doing something that XP donesn't...

      Good luck πŸ˜‰

Yup, it does differ a whole lot. It's quite a few years that separate these two Windows versions.
Good to hear you've got it sorted now.

Though I'm not experienced in this but supposedly, soon there won't be proper drivers for hardware (such as video cards) for older versions of Windows. Sooner or later all of us will be "forced" to upgrade to Vista or anything else MS introduces.

Yes, there's a limit to how long manufacturer will keep on supporting an old OS. But I think it'll still be available for XP as the userbase is still large.

Well, a friend of mine bought a new laptop (I know laptop drivers are quite different as they are supposed to be provided by the laptop manufacturer) which came with Vista and there was no way to get a driver that would properly support XP. I guess that's why some vendors/manufacturers sell lappies with "downgrade option" but that was exactly the case above so I1m curious what the problem can be.

Ugh... laptop drivers are a pain to obtain. Especially graphics drivers. They seem to drop support very quickly.

Yeah. I have a laptop (I got from Mike Lucey) and the latest driver for its nVidia GF 6800 GO is from 2006. 😲
Thank goodness I don't have a problem with it (although I had to reinstall the whole machine) but still...

I had a HP laptop with XP. Sketchup work perfectly. My HP got stolen and I replaced it with a Dell laptop with Vista. I now have the reverse face selection problem and the 'correct reverse picking driver bug' option did not help resolve the problem.
I have updated my graphic card driver and Sketchup and still have the problem. Is this a Vista problem. graphic card problem or Sketchup problem? It is extremely frustrating to use Sketchup now.

My money is on a graphic card problem. I run SU6/7 on XP, Vista and Windows7, every times there's been selection problems it's been due to the graphic card drivers.

Usually this issue can be traced on the graphic drivers not supporting OpenGL correctly.

The issue is that video cards and their drivers sometime do not handle correctly all the OpenGL instructions, and that is why you see this kind of selection issues.

Unfortunately on the SketchUp side we cannot do much to fix this, the only solution is to pressure video card owners to fix their video drivers. As Gaeius pointed out, this problem is increased by the fact that video cards and drivers are replaced constantly by manifacturers.

It is always recommended to have the most up to date drivers, and a video card that supports OpenGL 1.5 or higher.

And you can look here for more detailed recommendations.
