Have you looked at Model Info> Rendering> Anit-Aliased Textures, uncheck the box to see if that makes any difference,

I wonder if this is since SU7?

    It's been there before.

The issue gets worse when you mix SU transparency with transparent PNG materials.

Dunno what is happening. It was a long time that I didnt connect Sketchup with GoogleEarth. But now I decided to make some 3D models for my area... and guess what? Sketchup cant IMPORT GoogleEarth terrain, neither it can EXPORT a model to be geographically positioned in GoogleEarth.

I dunno what to do. Anyone has any idea? I have tons of plugins installed... maybe one of them is causing the problem?

    AcesHigh,

I can't tell from your message or your profile whether you're using Mac or Windows. Nevertheless, I can at least say that recently, there was a problem with a release of Google Earth that broke SketchUp integration on Mac. The problem was located quickly and a new version of Earth was pushed out to correct the issue, but not before many customers were automatically upgraded to the broken version.

Let's try manually forcing Earth to look for updates. Perhaps you're running on an outdated version and your problem will go away if you upgrade.

In Google Earth, go to Help...Check for Updates Online. That's what it is on Mac; I can't remember for Windows. If an update is available, download and install it. Then try again.

Let us know what you find.

    Andrew

Hi Andrews. I am using Vista 64.

I dont think the problem is with GoogleEarth... because... well, because I installed an older version of Sketchup (Skt 6) and it worked flawlessly with GoogleEarth. Its only the currently installed Sketchup7 that can communicate with GoogleEarth. I didnt want to uninstall it because of the tons of plugins I have, VRAY, etc...

    Hi folks.

I made this constatation when I discovered SU at version 3. It has always been working like that, I think.

Try scaling by 10000. You will need two scaling operations by 0.01 each to get back to original size.

I dont think that this is a bug but rather a limit for the allowed number used as a scale factor.

To my knowledge, the lower limit is very close to 0,001. If you type 0,001 you get an error message.

However, if you type 0,00100000001 it will work. MAybe this is a bug after all and 0,001 should be allowed. Then, why not 0,0001 ?

    Just ideas.

this is terrible news for me, i'm modeling a building with lots of in and out bits like colums and insets and whenever i project it adds all kinds of anoying faces for me to clean up, almost like shinging a light at the object and anywhere it would shadow it cuts faces into the mesh.. i can't see where this is a good idea.. of for any reason, i would just rather the texture to be smeared on those..

    This method works;
Go to C, program files, google, sketchup. Find the the SU boot icon, Leave that window open while you find an existing SU file. Drag the existing su file over the top of the SU boot icon. Sketchup opens fine.

Thank you, but I can't try it (you know, now I have XP again). As I said before, I think the problem is in the drivers I installed for my graphics card.

Unfortunately Sketchup does not handle large models very well so switching between apps will require SU to 'reload' the scene which will take a while especially with shadows on.

I cannot respond much about importing your CAD plans (assume ,dwg) as I do not know if you imprted it in the beginning or after you already had a large model, which would explain it if indeed it was the latter.

However, my first guess would be the ATI graphics card. Do a test by turning off Hardware Acceleration (Window>Preferences>OpenGL). Its a hit and miss affair to find a graphics driver version that works, but you could try it. At the time, Google is discouraging people from using ATI or Intel graphics solutions on their Hardware requirements page http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=36208&cbid=1tm6vzbb1xjzj&src=cb&lev=index

What do I have to specify in LO in order to export the vector type only? I'm making possibly a big assumption that LO's vector PDF exporter is different (bug-free) than SU's...

In Layout, you can select the view and set it's rendering style in the Sketchup Model "tab" in the Tray

It is hardly helpful, but the problem is, I understand, that all hidden line algorithms have to limit their accuracy, because they cannot keep caculating indefinitely. So always some lines that are directly on a surface are interpreted as hiding behind it, leading to missed lines. Besides SU PDF and DWG exports, I have seen the same with hidden-line exports from Autocad too. I have not tried if it is the same with Archicad and Revit too.

I can't practice either Google Sketchup 6 of Google Sketchup 7 on my laptop. It used to work then but suddenly an error came and it kept going and going like that even though I tried to install and re-install.
here's the prompt from my Windows Vista OS laptop
    SKETCHUP APPLICATION HAS STOPPED WORKING
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
damn, I really need to learn Sketchup, I need it in my daily job, lolz. How could I practice if it is not working in my laptop. Somebody help me...tnx. 😍

    Bobot,

I'm sorry to hear of your problem, but I'll try to help. Are you saying that both SU6 and SU7 are installed on your machine, but neither one works now?

Let's start with SketchUp 7. When you reinstalled, did you download the newest available file directly from Google?
    Free: http://dl.google.com/sketchup/GoogleSketchUpWEN.exe
    Pro: http://dl.google.com/sketchup/GoogleSketchUpProWEN.exe

To make sure you're running the newest version, please use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 7. Hover over SketchUp.exe. The tool-tip text should show the following:
    Description: Google SketchUp
    Company: Google, Inc.
    File Version: 7.0.10247.0

If you find you don't have the right version, or if you think you may have installed a file that you got from somewhere other than dl.google.com, try uninstalling SketchUp, and then reinstall it from one of the links above.

You may be able to solve some problems by running the program as administrator. That shouldn't be necessary, but the support folks tell me that they have seen some problems for Vista users where the program doesn't work properly from non-admin accounts. To test this theory, right-click on SketchUp.exe and choose "Run as administrator".

Unfortunately, if you really are having problems with both SU6 and SU7, it is almost certainly a problem with your operating system installation or a rogue piece of recently installed software corrupting files that are required for SketchUp. SU6 and SU7 can both run on the machine simultaneously without any problems and there is no overlap between them for what is installed into the Program Files directories. If they're both broken, it probably means something external to SketchUp is the cause.

Try the steps I mentioned and let me know how it goes.

    Hello! Really need help... πŸ˜›
I'm working in an office and in my computer I do not have administrator priviledges. I'm using Google Earth 5 and Google SketchUp 7 but when I try to import a terrain from Google Earth into SketchUp, Google Earth asks for a file called GoogleEarth.msi to complete the installation.
My administrator has already updated Google Earth and the import/export process works perfectly on his login, but on mine it keeps asking for the .msi file.
Even if I can find the .msi file (which the Google Earth installer apparently deletes), the dialog does not allow me to edit the folder path to retrieve the file and the preset path is some temp folder in the administrator folders, where I cannot access files.
Does anyone have any solution for this? Thank you for any tips! πŸ˜„
    Henrique, from Portugal

    Henrique,

The problem you are experiencing is related to the Google Earth installer. I passed the information on to the developer who created the GE installer and he is looking into it. Since the problem is apparently very rare and complex, I can't promise it's easily fixable, but at least you know we are aware of it.

    Simone,
    Thanks for the reply

It is on a PC hard drive, I open Sketchup Pro then open Layout, I then save the file before pressing the send to Layout button, I then get the error telling me to save the file first.

    I hope this helps

    many thanks

    Paul
