I've run into an very annoying problem. When I try to create a parallel guide from an existing line/guide it doesn't end up paralell. Instead it locks to a completely different line which I have no idea what it is.

It only happen if I try to pick the line/guide which is inside another group/component. If I enter the group/component it creates a parallel guideline as expected.

Hm... Is your plane that I see (and on which those original guides are) not slanting by any chance? I mean not on the blue plane for instance.

The quidelines you see, which I try to make paralell guides of, is lying paralell on the red axis on the same plane as the textured pavement.

Hm. I have no problem with creating parallel guides when the original is on the ground plane but if I rotate the group which contains the guide, I get funny results, too.

is it possible that the groups axis is moved, and it following that?

I only have SU7 to try on, does this happen in SU6 as well? I can't ever recall having problems with this.

I have had this happen to me a few times in the last little while. It is almost like the guide is trying to snap to hidden geometry, more like locked on, and just won't let go to readjust correctly.

                  Just monkeying around....like Monsanto

I've recreated the bug successfully. If the Guideline you pick from is inside a rotated group/component you can't create parallel guidelines from it.

                      Attached is a testcase.

Just installed SU6. Same thing happens there as well.

Okay, so what I found out (at least that's how it works for me) is:

                          1. If I create the group after adding the guide to it, everything works fine (see Group and Guide1 in the example file)
                          2. If I rotate the group (with the inside guide included), the outside guide line will be drawn by the exact double value of rotation as I rotated the group - see G2 in the file where I rotated the group by 30 degrees around the red axis but the secondary guide is "rotated" at 60 degrees (measured to the green axis; see from the side).
                          3. If I only group the rectangle and the guide AFTER rotating them first, the secondary guide is drawn parallel again.

Ah. That's good info. I couldn't work out what determined the direction of the mis-aliged guide. Hopefully this should be enough info for the SU team to terminate this bug.

(which SU had a bugtraker system)
