HUm... Strange. I cannot reproduce that. Have you tried selecting the objects and then checking entity info if the count is right ? Is Hardware acceleration checked in Preferences - OpenGL ?

@unclemonkey said: ......though as far as I can see, the gap is way smaller than the difference in dimensions indicates..... The gap that Jim noticed is (only) 1mm, exactly the difference between the overall length and the sum of the 2*160+inner wall length. It's not way smaller. @driven said: First thing I spotted was you had profiles set to 2, which can give minor discrepancies at 0.000....etc, as SU can snap to either side of your 'thick line'. I had to check this out so I set profiles to 20. It made no difference at all to accurately reproduce UncleMonkey's wall, incuding the gap and all its dimensions. I don't think profile thickness has to do with accurate modeling. Maybe UncleMonkey had length snap ON and set to something like 1mm? Jeff is right. If an edge is in a drawing plane (in plane with two axes or parallel to that plane) you'll be able to get 3 different dimensions in that plane. One of them being the 'Perpendicular' one reading the edge length. The other two in the drawing plane are along both axes of that plane.

@tig said: No image What is your graphics-card? Are its setting allowing Sketchup to set things as it wants? Have you tried adjusting the settings under Sketchup's Preferences > OpenGL to see if they have any affect? 1)msi 560 gtx twin frozr 2)i'm not too sure, lol 3) openGL is on, didn't really tweak on it. oddly enough, i tried copying the entire model and pasting into a new instance of sketchup. the bug/glitch is gone, and on top of that, the operation became as smooth as when i first started the project..cool. Prior to that I used the Purge plugin, (yours right? awesome plugin), it removed unused stuff but the glitch remained and no performance impact, as compared to the copy-paste step. I thought it could be that the size of the model was starting to gain weight...but.. I don't understand how it worked, but it did anyway! I'm gonna go sleep now..

Hi! I know, this is an old post, but in the meantime I have found a more elegant solution for this and maybe there is still someone in need of it. When working on more complex models, disabling OpenGL was not the ultimate solution. NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT driver update did not solve the problem either. Than I have found this information on exactly the same problem and its solution ... and it is finally gone! https://sites.google.com/site/sketchupsage/problems/gpu Thanks! Zsotti

Nice wood texture, by the way (thanks ) As TIG says, it loads just fine for me, too. Can it be a video card/driver issue (you never know)? Try to disable hardware acceleration under Window > Preferences > OpenGL to see (although the image is not particularly large)

It can even show wireframe boxes of components on hidden layers.

No. they don't sell licenses for older versions but it will just revert to the free version of SU6 when your 8 hours of eval time are consumed. No big deal since you've got V8.

Thanks for the info TIG Unfortunately its not always possible to find an existing thread where someone is experiencing the same issue as you... Either way I believe my test matrix has covered when this will cause an issue... and like i mentioned it would appear best to create components in a non-geolocated file... As I am in architecture and the geolocation controls the sun, this is not my default workspace... but I have now learned my lesson! It would help if the developers would issue such a warning though and at least build in the option into the component settings which I understand from the thread you pointed to, was something that actually existed in v7. I discovered this whilst trying to make a library of new people and almost blamed your image trimmer! Cheers Dave

@tig said: I guess the group's axes' directions and the model's axes' directions differ ? Try exploding the group in place and immediately regrouping it so the axes reset, re-dimension and see if the dims are then fixed... If it's a component then you can try resetting the component's axes to mimic the model's axes directions etc. indeed, the axis were different. But I'm thinking now that the cause was a earlier mirroring, because after exploding/regrouping I changed the axis again, and everything stayed in place.

By default a 'save' in any version of Sketchup always takes the version for that SKP from the version you are in, so if you have a v7 file open in v8 and you 'save' it again it will become v8! To save as a version other than the one you are currently in use 'save_as' and choose an earlier version off the dropdown list. On a PC a file is typically opened by the last application used to open one of those file-types - BUT v8 opens all SKP files [as v8] when you double-click any SKP's icon. So to open a known v7 file in v7 you first must launch v7 and then use its File > Open menu item...

The two 'wireframes' of the forms overlaid shows they are not identical - but why such small differences in their forms have such dramatic affects is their smooth appearance is a mystery...[image: ddZ3_Capture.PNG]

On Windows, the positions are saved into the Registry.. and the saving is BUGGED... ironically by the "Save/Restore Toolbars" feature the was added in v8. It seems each time you get a "scramble" and choose Restore, you get duplicate entries for all toolbars. If you turn off a plugin that has a toolbar, when the plugin is turned back on, Sketchup creates a new Registry entry rather than using the old one. My toolbar entries in the Registry are up to 566 !! .. Sketchup is taking way too long to parse all this junk at startup.

Yes I agree, there is minor bugs in SketchUp. It's important to fix them to preserve quality about UI experience if they are too many. Some may disappear when a new version will be developed, without looking for, because some code may be re-write, or graphic support will be improved.

Where did you get the SKP file? Is it one you created? I have on a couple of occasions created SKP models of tiny bits of hardware that have some issue with geometry that SketchUp didn't like when it saved at close. I couldn't get them to open again without an immediate bugsplat. I discovered that if I e-mailed the file to myself, I could download it and open it successfully. After repairing the bad geometry all was fine. Why that worked I can't say but it did work.
