Nice but we need to find you some decent wood grain materials.

Copying a system exe from one OS to another is not advisable. Also how many people will have XP and Vista/7 readily available to them at the same time? IF he wants to view the clipboard there are several free apps that will work on his OS... BUT as I said what use they might be in Sketchup is debatable...

That is the reason for proof loads and the bonding beads / wires I was discussing above. If you do the joints correctly then the wood will fail before the glue joint does provided you get the correct bond line thickness. If you do a search in mags like Fine Wood Working they have presented testing showing various joints and the load carrying capability. The results will probably surprise you. I usually build a test model first to work out problem areas and that is what failed so no big loss except some time .

One thing you'll want to check with FredoScale is does the component definition get updated. If it doesn't, the sub-components won't report as the correct size in a cut list. Generally, if you aren't opening a component for editing, scaling it will not change its definition. It does appear in a simple test that FredoScale deals with that, though.

Very nice looking bed. As for the glue up issue, you're right. You can never have too many clamps. One thing you could do to help with alignment is to drill a couple of holes for short dowels for alignment. Once you glue them in, they'll be like the rest of the wood. Another thing would be to leave the pieces a little long--you should do that anyway when gluing up like that--and using small nails driven in and their heads cut off. These will prevent the pieces from sliding while the glue is wet and they can be cut away when the piece is trimmed to length. Just make sure you know where they are so you don't hit them with the saw. If you have access to a jointer, you could just leave the pieces over wide, too. Then, after gluing up you can true all the faces.

[image: 5601922220_e0c573092b.jpg] I straightened the back up to 3° and made the back posts slightly more slender. I think this helps.

As long as it is not stand alone I would not worry. You must plan on someone setting or even standing on it ( children). Beating them after the fact does not help

Your first solution worked like a charm, and I'll be trying the plugin for SU8 soon. Many thanks!

Nice bathroom Rich! We're about to do the same here. But the wooden floor is completely shagged! It's also much smaller in size, but I knocked this up in SU the other day... Not really room to 'swing a cat'. Oh well, at least I can sit on the john and stare out of the window! [image: Yw6C_ourbathroom.png]

TIG's two suggestions are excellent. I will add that if you've applied the material to the component 'wrapper' instead of the faces, you won't have the option to move the texture as in his second suggestion. My preference is to always apply the materials to faces and not the component 'wrapper' so that I have the option to adjust the material without changing the component axes. As to the location of the component axes, you may want to move them to make inserting instances easier. This would be especially true if you expect to reuse the component in other models later.

Dedmin, I understand there is a (big) difference between a theoretical concept and its implementation. Let's just say that the theory stuff behind SU and say Rhino is very different and both have their merits and issues. Thanks for the links, Felix

Dave, That is a good solution to the problem which has indeed bugged me from time to time. Can't think why it didn't occur to me!
