    • Replacement for Freedxf plugin?

I've been using SketchUp 14 free version since it came out, because I frequently need to import dxf files and the Freedxf plugin enabled me to do so. Now I understand that the author of the plugin no longer supports it. I'd like to use the latest (free) version of SketchUp, and I'm wondering if there are any other plugins that enable importing dxf files. I searched the forums, but didn't find any recent discussions of this.

      Thanks in advance

    • RE: [Plugin] FreeDXF Importer

Does version 0.9.0 work with SketchUp 2015 free version? I'm currently using v0.8.2 with SketchUp 2014 (works great, thanks!)

I'm also having trouble installing this plugin into Sketchup 2014. I may have the wrong version; I see above that the latest is 0.8.7, but in the filename I downloaded it's 0.8.2, which appears to have been created 2 months ago, and I can't find a more current version. Is "0.8.7" a typo? If not, is there a link to the newer version? I got it from the following link at the Sketchucation download store:

SketchUp Plugins | PluginStore | SketchUcation

SketchUp Plugin and Extension Store by SketchUcation provides free downloads of hundreds of SketchUp extensions and plugins

      (sketchucation.com)

      The filename is freedfx_v0.8.2.rbz

I pasted the file to the following folder on my computer, and restarted SketchUp:

      C:\Users\tom\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins

When I try to find it in SketchUp, I don't see a "plugins" icon anywhere, and when I open Ruby console, nothing appears. Have I left out a step?

      Thanks in advance,
      Tom

    • Sketchup 7 free dxf import

I recently got a new computer. I went online and downloaded SketchUp 7, which I had been using because that was the last update that allowed dxf imports in the free software.
once the pro version expired, dxf import no longer works. I seem to remember a plugin or some kind of tweak that allowed the import functionality, but I imported all my plugins from the old computer and it still doesn't work. Any ideas, besides buying the pro version? Can't afford that right now.

    • SU pro upgrades

So far, I've been making do with the free versions, but I'm thinking of paying for pro at some point. I was just wondering how much the upgrades cost. If you paid your $500 for version 7 pro, how much did it cost to upgrade to version 8?

Your first solution worked like a charm, and I'll be trying the plugin for SU8 soon.

      Many thanks!

    • Sketchup 7

I've been using SU7.1 and 8 (both free versions.) I keep 7.1 because it allows me (with a plugin) to import dxf files without paying for the pro version. I recently bought a new laptop, and can't find a site online that will allow me to download the older version. I tried finding the original exe in my downloads folder, but only V8 is there. Any suggestions, preferably that don't involve spending $500?

      Thanks in advance

      If that's a render I'm REALLY impressed.

    • SketchUp 8

Just watched the intro video for SU8. Of the 3 main improvements, 2 are only for Pro and the other seems mainly to do with locating models on Google Earth and using BuildingMaker. For us non-pro woodworking users, is there any reason to upgrade to 8? Do you lose the ability to import dxfs, like they did last time in version 7.1, then recanted with a plugin? Are there any features not mentioned in the video (and not limited to pro) that would be useful for woodworking?
