You can only set the segment number of native SU circles, arcs and polygons - and even this only until you affect (modify, add walls etc) to the entity. The problem with CAD exports is that the circles/arcs do not come through as circle/arc entities (not even as a continuous polyline) so you cannot modify them later. The only solution is what Dylan says; draw a circle with your custom segment number) and resize it to fit to your needs. Now you have the circle entity and can delete the original ellipse (yes, this method is very cumbersome).

Free version of SketchUp seems to work with WINE and Ubuntu Hardy Heron on my older workstation... [image: IRqw_Screenshot-0.jpg] However, fast feedback is disabled and there is a tendency for the window to go black for a few seconds following minimizing or resizing. There were a couple of unaccountable crashes while I had SketchUp minimized. The delete key doesn't delete (I have to use the Eraser on anything). And it seems a little slow... I had to make some changes to the WINE Registry to get this to work (otherwise crash on startup): [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConfig\Display] "FIRST_TIME"=dword:00000000 "HW_OK"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\Google SketchUp TOTD] "HelpPage"="0" "ShowOnStartUp"="false" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\SnappyInstructor] "Show"="0" This is on a quad-core Pentium D with four gigs and decent NVidia card with a half-gig of VRAM from about two years ago (there's no convenient system profiler in Ubuntu, or at least I can't find one, and offhand I don't remember what is in this). Oh, and Compiz needs to be turned off from Appearance Preferences > Visual Effects. Is this worth doing just to be free of Windows or Mac OS? I don't know. It's likely there are some bugs I haven't found yet. As opposed to wasting a few hours seeing if the Pro version will work on one of my machines on Linux, it might make more sense to adapting my working methods to some Linux-native app.

Well im pretty sure that isnt in a current release, so perhaps its part of a future planned release. If you want a definitive answer you'll want to send cphillips a PM.

Thanks guys. After great deal of research and try outs, I concluded that SU is not yet there for fine designing. Its power is in quick presentations and models. Saying that, I have not finalized the tool I will use but am glad that at least I won't spend more time with SU for this purpose. But, I will surely use SU for lot other reasons. till then so long.. (not for long) Pankaj ps: Thanks Alan for pointing to new tool.

Dear Joe and Bob, I've just tried the two. I'm not sure with Joe Solution because inference is missing to adjust the second arrow on the first one. Do i've missed a step, there is always some space between. Bob solution works fine. ('paste in place')"Got the good tip!"--- even if it needs a little practice. (I should never have found this Tip by myself. No mention of it in UserGuide!!) [image: arrows1.jpg] [image: arrows2.jpg] Great Thx to both of you. ;-)slb

Following up on what was said above regarding printing to scale, to turn off Perspective, under the Camera Menu, select instead Parallel Projection. In effect, perspective views do not have a reference to a scale; orthographic and oblique projections do. Hope this helps. Cheers, Diego -

Nevermind. After I reset the mouse wheel from DOUBLE-CLICK, to WHEEL-CLICK, the SHIFT button will now interrupt a line draw. But I'll have to remember to change the mouse setting whenever I use SketchUp. However, I find that I still end up with two lines instead of one. Is there a way to combine them into one line, other than grouping. Thanks again for the help.

Hi guys, Sorry for the late reply! I've read Ross Macintosh's explanation and that's probably why sketchup is behaving like this. Funny thing is that changing the Shadow orientation fixes the issue (at least for the orientation that I choose). As for the image that I wanted, I exported it as two files, one with shadows and another without them. Opened the last one in photopaint and paste the "shadow image" as a layer (multiply). It did the trick. Thanks for your help

@actionpink said: I have been trying to create a 2D person in sketchup using a tutorial that I found in the warehouse. To create the person, I have created a material using a photograph, painted a surface with the material, and then outlined the image of the person. After deleting the surrounding surface, I am left with a great looking image of a person in 2d, however, I can not move the object around because the material does not stay in line with the outline of the person. I have tried "creating a component" and selecting "always face camera" but this seems to automatically mess the whole thing up anyways. Is there a way to lock a material to a surface? Is there another way I can create a 2D person in sketchup without using photoshop or another image editing program? Thanks! %(#008000)[When importing an image in SU to: 'Use as image', then explode or 'Use as texture' the texture is fixed to the face it is on.] However when painting anything straigth from the material browser then the texture is fixed to the unrotated/untranslated origin. (the original one) Most likely you painted using an already imported picture. %(#4000FF)[Also: Sampling from fixed texture to apply to another face results in also fixed to the new face. Sampling unfixed texture results in unfixed texture on the new face.] %(#008000)[Just right click on the texture > select 'Texture > Position' from the context menu > immadiately rigth click on the texture (tiles) again and select 'Done' Now the texture is fixed to that particular face.] (Note: this does not apply to painted groups or components as a whole) Wo3Dan

Thanks to all of guys! I have to say, Gidon's way is the quickest and cleanest. I remember trying it some time ago but gave up. But this time I got it. Any one else interested in this then watch this video to compliment the understanding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09Vd2jj3BGE Thanks again Pankaj

Hi Pankaj, hi folks. Same answer Gully Foyle gave in the other forum: use 3D text. Dont give it any depth unless you want to. I suggest grouping it to avoid any interaction with other geometries. Just ideas.

I recently had one of these cards placed in my works workstation and had so much trouble with SU. I tried various things to cure it but gave up and put my old card back in. I now have a nice GPU sat in my bottom draw! Maybe I will put it back and give it another go with what worked for you.
