    • RE: 3D Worldsphere

wooow that was a fast answer ^^

with your method, am i able to push/pull the faces it projects on the sphere out or is it like a globus. 3d sphere with a maptexture.?
because i would like to pull out the continents so that it would look like i would make this (3d sphere + texture --> texture becomes bump/displacement map --> rendering both with vray displacement settings)

or do i have just a 3d sphere with a "2D" map on it.
i found a picture what describes it best. (hopefully ^^)

hopefully you understand my "f*** up" english XD

    • 3D Worldsphere

      Hi Guys,

i hope someone can help me with my problem. its a little hard to explain, but what im planning to do is to model half of a 3d sphere in sketchup and then "place" continents on it.

so on the picture u see my half sphere and the two continents i want to place onto the sphere. so my question is now, is there a plugin or a easy way to put the continents onto the sphere ?

    • Vray + Displacement = Damn slow

      Hi Guys,

hopefully you can help me because im getting a bit "angry" about rendering with Vray and displacement maps. First of all im a total newbie with rendering so when you explain something to me please make it as simple as possible. (Think of me as a 4 year old child)

I played a little bit with modeling and rendering in Sketchup and ended up with some sort of living room scene. With the help of google i found a simple looking tutorial about making a carpet with a bump/displacement map looking like a carpet with a "fury" surface.

Found it quit nice and started to use the bump/displacement feature quit inflationary. By means i used it for the couch and the picture to. To get a leather and a oil painting look. Just wanted to render it now, but the rendering is damn slow. For 2 hours i just saw a black picture and then it slowly got visible.

The only thing i changed in the render settings was the displacement settings (=the way it was described in the tutorial) everything else is still standard.
So my question is now, is there a way to make the rendering faster or a modeling trick to get the same effect just with a real model or maybe a plugin that adds the details to the model with the help of the bump/displacement map, because i would like to play with the modeling an rendering tools and se sort of a fast outcome and don`t have to wait 6 hours for the finished picture.

      (Hopefully i described it understandable)

    • Render or Model Problems

      Hi community,
first of all, superb forum, found alot of usefull tutorials for sketchup. Thanks for that.
Second im new to Sketchup and have some troubles rendering a model i made. I dont exactly know if its the model that causes the problemes or if im just to stupid to use the VRay Render correctly.

Hopefully you will understand my explanations of the problems i have, because im german. ^^

The Chrome Effekt looks kind of nice, but there are some places where there is this sort of black shadow i dont like.
I have three light sources in the scene. The Right one is white and has an multiplier of 6, the left one is sort of orange and has an multiplier of 4 and the top is white an has an multiplier of 12. Or did i mess up the Vray Render Settings

The biggest problem is, that the wodden bottom of the chair looks totally messed up. on the right side of the wooden thing there are these brown "dots", the next uglier thing is left of the dots. This part looks like someone carves out some pieces of the wood. Then again the brown dots and the black triangle thing. Are these lightning an render problems or problems with the model ^^.

Hopefully you can help me ^^
