Black boxes around 3D components

Hi,
I have dropped into my model a number of different 3D plants (trees, grasses etc.). A couple of these 3D components(?) have black boxes around each of the planes, which when selected turn blue. This is fine except that they look unsightly, and I don't want them in my finished model. How do I turn off these black boxes so that the tree still appears but the boxes don't? It has only appeared on 2 of around 5 different plant components/symbols/whatever they are called.
