    • Big issues with my .kmz exports

      Hi all -

I've finally put something together that I'd like to upload to the Warehouse but I've suddenly hit a brick wall when I try to export my model to a .kmz file.

Firstly if I export the whole model my Sketchup will just 'hang' when I try importing it back in (it isn't a massive file compared with some I've previously downloaded from the warehouse) and secondly, if I export parts to see if they export/import okay, they loose all of their 'smoothed' edges when I import the kmz file (i.e. every single line is solid).

Does anyone have any clues as to what I may be doing wrong?

      Thanks,

      DT.

    • D'oh! Lost the tutorial on making grass with fur tool..

Not covering myself in glory, I have used the fur genereating plug-in in the past to make very effective grass - but I've forgotten how I did it! Tsk! 😳

I know that there was a tutorial on the site somewhere showing how it was done - I've tried searching but couldn't find it and inputting the word "fur" in the seach box gave no results for some reason...

So - if anyone could point me and my poor (old) memory in the right direction I'd be really grateful πŸ˜‰

    • RE: Project texture issues on complex shape

Ahhh - I'm there now - thanks for the help, though I'm still a little unclear as to how I managed to get it all working!! The finished results are certainly making it worth the effort of sticking with it, though.....

    • Project texture issues on complex shape

      Hi all -

I don't know if I'm trying to push Sketchup beyond its comfort zone or whether there is a solution to the problem I have encountered.

I am trying to project a texture onto a basic model of a spitfire. This model has been imported as a .3ds file and looks to be a nice stable import but it doesn't seem to take a projected texture very well. The texture only seems to fill 3 or 4 adjoining sections at a time before 'jumping' to a completely different part of the image file that I have used. Everything is fine when I project the texture on to a simple cone created in Sketchup.

So... I guess it's a case of asking if the model needs to be very simple to work with projected textures, if imported .3ds files don't like to take projected textures or (hopefully) there is a work-round or I'm not doing something correctly.

All suggestions would be gratefully received! πŸ˜„
