Hi Joe, hi folks. I did that a while ago : Horn2.skp However, since we now have access to plugins, I would do it like that: 1 - Create a cone; 2 - Bend it. To create a cone, draw a triangular profile and use a circle for the path with the Follow metool. For a ram horn, you may have to bend in steps and scale to create a helix form since these can have more than one complete turn Just ideas.

Hi Lee, The PM function is typically for box shaped buildings. In our historic downtown area, we hardly have a building with a rectangular plan so I cannot even use PM for those - not to speak about organic shapes like valleys and rocks. I doubt that it could ever be successfully used for those. There are other techniques/applications but generally they involve more photos taken from different angles so that the software (like TGi3D PhotoScan) can create the 3D shape from those different shots. Just like our two eyes that see two, different images of the same object and our brain puts those together into a 3D image (or something)

Hi Jeff, Did you geolocate your model? If so, it should have imported two things: a flat snapshot and a 3D terrain. Open your Layers dialog (Window menu) and try the toggle terrain button now. You should see how the layer visibility changes in the layer dialog. Is there anything like that there?

Yeah, that hint to the other "genre" is completely relevant in this case!

Hi Jase (Jason?) and welcome! @jasemilly said: Hoping to learn lots and not ask to many silly questions, my modeling knowledge is as close to non-existant as possible. There's practically no "silly" question here. This is why we set up this section: all newbies feel free to ask whatever they are not certain about.

True, low polygon model is "faceted" with the silhouette. Like in examples... there is nothing that can be done for it with selfshadowing. Only subdivision will help for that.

If you have Install the Bezier SPline by Fredo 6 I believe you must make: Right click on the curve of CurveMaker / Change the nature of the curve ! And then use the Curviloft

Thanks to mac1 and EarthMover for the replies. I read the link Earthmover posted and it concludes Sketchup is not the best CAD to use when making complex fillets. Sketchup is very intuitive though which helps with the creative process, so hopefully new developments are on the way.

Thank you. The kirril2008 tool for creating a mesh to points looks interesting, although I'm unsure that a point cloud point is a 'point'...I'll have a go. Certainly a few things worth trying among your suggestions. Thanks for the 'pointer'!

What procedure are you using to copy the group to the other model? I'd make that tile a component instead of a group and save it in a local collection. Then it would be available to drag into the roof model.

This has been discussed recently in another thread... If you make the parts as components I wrote a short block of code to lay additional copies out 'flat' [on their own layer so they are readily set on/off...]. You determine what is 'flat' by changing the axes of a placed component so blue/Z is in the desired 'up' direction of the part when laid down flat.

How about finish the construction then draw an arc that would trim the whole shape? It looks like you are creating a corner then you're going to build off that? If you are just trying to lathe that corner, you have the problem that the shape needs to be perpendicular to the first segment in the path. Always a problem with arc paths. If you wish to use follow me, lathe the arc shape about the center of a circle, then isolate a quarter of the dome for your corner. [edit] Oops. See Jean's notes about hidden geometry below if you are new to that. Very helpful. Otherwise you can't do what I am proposing.
