If the existing drive is dependable enough for a short period and you can install the new drive at the same time, you can migrate the contents from the original to the new drive. I did this when I replaced my C drive with a new solid state drive and I had very good luck with that process. Everything made the transition without a problem. The migration software was downloaded from Microsoft. If you decide to treat the computer as new with the new drive installed, you'll have to reload the operating system and everything else. If you go that router you should download a fresh copy of SketchUp and install it. If you are using the same version of SketchUp, copy the Plugins, Materials, Styles and Components folders and paste them into the new installation. It'll be fine. If you decide to upgrade to SU2013 then do not copy the plugins over from the old Plugins folder. Instead download them fresh. Styles, Materials and Components can be copied over, though.

One thing that comes to mind from looking at your image is it looks as though the profile might have been placed very near but not on a vertex of the circular path. This would result in a very short section of extrusion between the profile and the vertex where the extrusion changes direction. And that short section would result in a gap. The best thing to do would be to place the the profile at the mid point of a side of the circle to get equally long sections of extrusion on either side of the profile. Of course if the side of the circle is extremely short you'll still have issues. Second best would be to place the profile at the vertex itself. The downside, although it may not matter much in this case is that the resulting extrusion will be distorted a bit relative to the original profile.

@tig said: You haven't managed to tell us how you are exporting the SKP, so how Mayan might handle a file's subsequent importation must be a guess... Although your Model-Units might be 'meters' SketchUp's internal base-units are always "inches". In a SketchUp DAE exported file's header, you get: <unit meter="0.0254" name="inch" /> So something 1.0 long in the SKP's Model-Units [m] is in the DAE file as 39.37008 [i.e. it's always inches]. When you import the DAE into another app like Maya, then that app assumes certain things about the imported data. It should know it's "inches" from the header, and adjust the imported object to the current Maya units... You have Maya set to 'cm' so it ought to read in the 39.37008" and convert it into 100cm - not 1cm - so I now must suspect it's not a DAE file ?? Another option... FBX export is different from DAE - you can set its options to use whatever 'units' you like. So although you are working in "meters" you can export in "centimeters", or whatever. The FBX's Mesh values are always in the option-units - so for 1m you'd get 1 for units=m, 100 for units=cm etc. Inside an FBX file only UV dimensions are always represented in "inches" 1m >>> 39.3700787401575 etc... So now Maya [setup in cm] should import an FBX properly... IF you have it set the FBX units-option to "centimeters" - even though you are working in another model-unit in the SKP... Thank you sir for your answer. I am importing as a FBX file from SU and when it asks in fbx import screen i choose centimeters for units (cause i am using cm in Maya). So my question is when i import this 1 meter cube in maya if i dont scale anything when i measure the cube it gives me 100 units which is true (1 meter is 100 cms). Is this the correct workflow? Thanks.

I take it that you are looking for a tool that will create a worn and torn look. Deterioration from rough handling? Possibly this? http://sketchucation.com/plugin/720-ene_fractalterrain_v1-0-0_2

Josh, I'm curious about your drawing. What benefit do you expect from all the very short line segments? Are you looking for a smooth surface in a rendered image or something? What is the end product of your SketchUp model? I would suggest that you don't need anywhere near the number of segments/faces that you'll end up with. This comes up from time to time. I made this as a quick example for someone else who thought they needed many thousands of faces to get a smooth surface. [image: 6318648290_530026a3b2.jpg] This looks smooth to me and there's not that many faces on the large surface. I'm just asking you this because I'm curious and because I rarely find any benefit in using such short line segments in my modeling. I'm also curious about another thing with your profile. Zoom in very close to the curve at the top of the long straight on right side of it. Do you really intend to have the crease that will be created there when you run Follow Me? Is that by design?

If you triple click a contour edge all the connected edges should select with it. It is not required to weld it. If they don't select, then they need to be connected by hand or ruby.

I was able to export the model, but in pieces. What confounds me about this particular model it uses almost all the same materials I use in other models which I have had no problem exporting with the extension OBJexporter. I do appreciate all the help and suggestions. This is a wonderful community! Thank you. Jo Ann

When you use "Add location", you import a map and terrain from Google Maps. At the same time, the coordinates are saved with your model. This is a convenient way to attach the coordinates to the model, but if you don't need the terrain you can delete it. If you have a more precise terrain you can use that. Users can write plugins to use other tools for geo-referencing.

I have made some good progress to clean up most of the auto folds in the orginal post. One major issue is keeping an on face inference for the windows especially when trying to array across a large surface. Also the material browser is reporting four faces in some cases=> not good. If I get any thing close to useable will send this pm, XMAS shop time now. Make sure you understand and use the su inference engine so things are keep planar etc. it maybe the program for the skin gives su some inference poblems. Make sure you lock the on face inference

I have worked with AutoCad Architecture since 1994. I have been working with Sketchup Pro for 3D models only for a year. I like the links posted on how to use Layout. Think I will finally be able to abandon Autodesk..after I practice some. I love SketchUp. I like AutoCad for some things...I used to model in 3D, but have not done so ever since I got into SketchUp...I think everyone ought to leave Autodesk due to their non-cooperation, and lack of improvement over the years.
