Soap Skin and Bubble Plug In

Hi,

I've been trying and trying to download the soap skin and bubble plugin but am failing miserably.
Every time i attempt to download this file the following message keeps appearing:
See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\Nicola\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD9A2.tmp\install.log' for more information.

When i tried another way to download this plug in, i received the following message:

C:\programfiles(x86)\Google\GoogleSketchup8\Plugins\SoapSkinBubbleTool_Rel_1.10.13(1).zip
You don't have permission to save in this location.
Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Would you like to save in the Nicola folder instead?

I'm guessing this could be an administrative issue?? I am the only user on my computer(sole administrator) so am a little confused as to why this would be an issue?

Hi Nicola, it sounds like a lack of administrative rights to the folder in which you are trying to save the file; the Plugins folder. This is common on Win7. Do you know how to change the administrative rights for the folder?

In Windows Explorer, navigate to the C:\programfiles(x86)\Google\GoogleSketchup8. You should see the Plugins folder. Right click on it and at the bottom of the menu that pops up click on Properties and then select the Security tab. Then click on Edit and set permissions to Allow. I believe you'll need to have administrative rights on the computer. If it is your computer you should be able to do this under Start>Control Panel>Users. After setting the permissions click on Apply and the OK. After you have the Permissions set you should be able to extract the files to the Plugins directory.

After you've done that, download the ZIP file to somewhere on your computer and extract it to the Plugins folder.

I've noticed that this plugin (soap skin and bubble) is not listed on the plugin resources.
Is there any reason for that?

It is not hosted here either by link or physically.

Lots of plugins aren't on the index. Look at Smustard for instance.

Yes, there's an excellent reason for that. It isn't hosted here on SCF. The author has his own website for it.

Many Thanks for your reply, unfortunately i've done all of the above but am still receiving the same install error message!!
I don't know how relevant this is but within the control>users>security tab i noticed i had full access but was unable to tick the special permissions box?? Could this be preventing the download??

Very probably that is the problem. Can you log in as administrator and make yourself an administrator with full privileges and then try again?

This is probably not going to be very helpful to you now but when Win7 first appeared I was always advised not to install anything to the c:\program files or C:\program files (x86) folders
Instead make a new folder, eg: 'C:\sketchup' to avoid all sorts of admin problems.

I never download anything from the Web directly to a program folder but have a separate folder under Documents to store my downloads. As to the plugin you are installing, if the download is in zip format it won't even work before you unzip it. If you haven't turned off notifications in the User Account control settings, Windows 7 will not let you download anything directly to the Program files folders.

download the .zip to somewhere else, the default downloads folder created by your browser is OK
unzip it
move or copy the contents of the unzipped folder to your sketchup plugins folder. Windows 7 should at this point ask for confirmation or for an admin login and password.

Problem solved. It was an extraction error. Fixed with 7-zip.

Any solution on how to install soap skin bubble on Sketchup 2013?

I tried, and i get error message saying there is a new version with installer for Sketchup 9. However, on their site, I can't seem to find the "installer" file?

Yes, that happens from time to time. The author has made the plugin so there is a time limit and you must reinstall it to continue using it. Go to the author's site, download and install it again.
