RE: Demands for a laptop
in terms of SU do u think there will be much diff between:-
NVIDIA Geforce 8400M with 128mb (on xps M1330 vista machine)
or
NVIDIA Quadr0 FX360M with 128 (256 Turb) (on Precision M2300 with XP)prob want to play some games on there as well hehehe

RE: Demands for a laptop
but i thought that SU still does not support open GL.
also doesnt this laptop come with vista - arnt there still SU issues?
I have just been recommended the Precision M2300 - is it not as good?

RE: Interior Design
I doubt you will need to model the whole interior to show the client, unless its a few rooms. Most clients dont need to see a perspective plan - but its nice for students to messy about with these things.
The usual way to do it is you should first sketch out the plan to scale with your hand! or CAD.
Then build up the model and as you go along u can start to develop (pushpull and modify the elevations, etc...
If you are spending too much energy messing about clicking stuff and building stuff and no time designing(like all those stud partitions I saw above, then you are the equivielant of a labourer or brick-layer), for me thats a warning sign that you are not being creative. Be the master of the tool and make it help u DESIGN/CREATE. If SU causes u to design something thst you might not have seen while sketching with your hand, then it has done its job. IMHO
If your just making some typical residential house - most of the design will be in the furniture which can be bought or down loaded. But these spaces can be easy to draw in free hand so you should think is it worth while to spend ages to build this type of space.
Personnaly I find it annoying to model and view within small spaces. Not to mention my complains on the unfair interior lighting in SU. I sometimes just make the 3 main sides to the room as Im selling that part to the client and all I want to do is get him to say yes, then I can just draw up the rest in 2D drawings and instruct the contrctor etc etc
Well I have waffled on. I am not experienced as most on this forum, but I am an interior designer so I hope I have helped you a bit..

RE: Multiple copy
oh silly me, its a while since i used SU, now im back i forgot all these resources (my hard drive died so i lost all my old resoure.

RE: Dimensions
i love those cartoony 3d furniture pieces. they look hand drawn and cute. i nice map and lines - i suppose most will think they look normal, maybe im odd..
-
RE: Dimensions
oh thanks - I will post my first detail soon (when I do it)!
-
Multiple copy
is there a command where u can repeatably copy and paste and move without clinking copy the paste then move. I think autocad has it (multiple copy).

RE: Dimensions
any chance of seeing an image, to see how it can look and get me excited!!
-
RE: Sketchy indoor lighting
do you mean the gods of Sketchup are aware?? or the mage that created the plugg in.
I so cant wait
-
Dimensions
does anybody here seriously use dimensions and text for there work. Like drawing details etc.
-
RE: Sketchy indoor lighting
any news are to when it will be released?
infact if sketchup do not buy this addon or are not already adding it to v7 they are seriously neglecting all us interior designers

Reflections
Hi, How to get a decent relflected image in my reflected surfaces. I often only model stand alone elements and furniture etc so there will be no walls or ceilings etc.

RE: Advice on which renderer to use
Thanks for the tips. By default I can only look at KT as Indigo does not seem to export (keeps asing me for .exe with i dont have)
Just realised that I will loose my sketchy lines if i render with KT etc. Shame...

Advice on which renderer to use
I have just discovered Indigo and Kerkythea. I would like to explore one of these softwares but would like some advice as to which one might be best for me to focus on.
Im not looking for top class finished presentation work.
Just decent glass, metal and reflective surfaces, and a better library of arch materials.
With simple and easy to manipulate luminares and daylight.
Should be very quick to render and I hope very intuitive.
Thanks SU community!!

Ruby causes crash
I was using a mirror ruby plug-in and my SU had a bug splash. Not the first time with this plug-in.
Is it quite normal for crashes when using ruby stuff. Any official list of safe rudy apps out there?

RE: Caffe bar finished (maybe) :)
Yeah, nice!! I like to see fellow Interior designers work.
How did u render it with reflections. Hmmm - im also looking for a good polished metal material without using raytrance but that still looks OK.
-
Transparent material
i was looking for transparent clear material (perspex / acrylic) with none of the standard green or grey tint. They will not let me change colour in the material editor. Anybody know how to solve this conundrum?
Also how do u all make polished stainless steel look abit like s/s??

RE: Sketchy indoor lighting
Wow - that looks very exciting. Thanks for the tip!

Sketchy indoor lighting
basic sketchy indoor lighting approximated from light sources - just like when u sketch interiors and add the basic shading for table lamps or the scallops of spot lights on a wall etc. sketchup really needs this to give all us interior designers a break and make us feel like we are not just using a tool mainly created for architects.
